It may depend on the type of card you are trying to buy. Lately it seems iTunes is getting harder to buy with a gift card, even a few Target stores have stopped allowing that with a system change. Over the summer I didn’t have any trouble turning a couple Walmart gift cards into Disney but that wasn’t $1k and I don’t think Disney is treated like cash like iTunes or eBay or gaming cards

An Amazon card will fetch 95% of its value, a Gap card will be worth 85%, and some cards will be matched with just 70% of their original value. The exchange program is being done in partnership with CardCash, the largest platform for buying and selling gift cards. Walmart says this exchange is a test but could be made permanent if there is heavy demand.
To exchange their gift cards, shoppers dont even need to leave the house. Walmarts card exchange website, Walmart.CardCash.com, lets users input their gift cards information, and a Walmart gift card will be emailed to them once the original cards balance is verified.
