Affirm Lets You Set Up Payments For Walmart Amazon And More
Like with SplitIt, you dont have to specifically sign up for Affirm.What is Affirm? Its a payment option at the checkout of hundreds of online retailers, including Walmart, Adidas, Purple, Peloton, YETI, and Eddie Bauer.
Amazon recently announced a partnership with Affirm. In the coming months, Amazon will allow shoppers to pay for a wide range of products over the course of months, rather than weeks.
Its not my favorite, though, because AFRM performs a credit check and charges interest. For example, Affirms partnership with Walmart offers repayment plans of 3, 6, and 12 months on purchases totaling $144 to $2,000 with interest rates that range from 10 to 30%.
If youre shopping in person at Walmart, you sign up for Affirm and scan a special barcode from the Affirm app at the register to finish the transaction and begin the Affirm payment plan.

I’ve actually did this last year when I bought an Echo. I was skeptical about dropping nearly $200 on something I wasn’t totally sold on. At $36 a month, though, I was willing to take the plunge.
It’s important to note that you don’t save or lose any money by paying in installments. There are no hidden fees or charges it’s just another way to pay for Amazon’s latest hardware. The total tax of the product will be added to the first payment, which will make it a little higher than the other payments, but that makes sense.
Most of Amazon’s gadgets are eligible for an installment plan, but in some cases this payment method only applies to a certain version of a product. For example, the Kindle Paperwhite is only eligible if you buy the version without special offers.
Amazon’s installment plan is the perfect way to justify buying a new piece of tech, or justify an upgrade. Amazon doesn’t charge interest when you use its BNPL service. Of course, you can prepay your next installment or pay off the entire balance before it’s due.
Because there’s no interest involved, the only benefit of paying off your balance early is to not have to keep track of upcoming payments, especially if you’re using the program for multiple purchases at a time.

Even though Amazon allows customers to make split payments with gift cards, customers cannot use pre-paid Visas or Mastercards to split payments.
While pre-paid credit cards are technically gift cards, they operate like regular credit cards on debit machines.
Therefore, prepaid credit cards do not come with codes that customers can enter into their Amazon account.

If youre like me, you may have a couple of these with odd amounts stuck on them, like $3.72 a number too small to buy anything large with, but also something that you dont want to throw away, right? Did you know you can use those small prepaid gift cards to make partial-purchase payments on Amazon?
Consumerist has a great article on how to do this, and I love this idea, especially since many of us have been doing rebates lately that involve Visa, MasterCard, or American Express gift cards.
While Amazon wont let you split payments among multiple credit cards, they will allow you to pay both with an Amazon gift card and another form of payment! Its easy to use up your old Visa gift card by turning it into an Amazon gift card. Send it to yourself as an e-gift card and then use that to pay on Amazon!
Ill walk you through the steps, as its very easy to doHead over to Amazons page. Enter the amount of the balance left on your Visa gift card, and fill out the gift card info to have it sent to yourself. Once you pay with your old Visa gift card, youll receive a new Amazon gift card in your email!

To use an Amazon payment plan, youll have to meet the following conditions to qualify:
- Reside in the United States
- Have an active Amazon account thats at least one year old
- Link a valid credit card to your account

Theres also some fine print regarding eligible products that qualify. Amazon monthly payment plans may only be available for new products sold and shipped by Amazon.com and certain refurbished products sold and shipped by Amazon Digital Services.
