How Amazon Prime Same
Unlike rival retailers Target and Walmart, Amazon doesnt have stores all over the country. In order to make same-day delivery possible, the company has built mini-fulfillment centers that are optimized for faster click-to-delivery speeds. Amazon points out that these facilities employ hundreds of part-time and full-time employees in areas where Amazon doesnt have full-size centers.
Unsurprisingly, other retailers match Amazon with their own same-day delivery services. Two years ago, Target expanded its same-day delivery to cover most of the country. Similarly, back in 2017, Best Buy tripled the number of metro areas where same-day delivery is available. The fact of the matter is that everyone wants instant gratification after placing an order online. And the retailers are going to do whatever they can to ensure that your order arrives as quickly as possible.

Hold Amazons Feet To The Fire
I realize Amazons been hit by unprecedented demand in recent months, but lets not forget they are one of the richest companies in the world.
Now that the economy and stores have opened back up in most of the country, the demand for online shopping has been greatly reduced.
Yet Amazon still cant figure it out and solve their order backlog issues.
What ticks me off the most is Amazon wants to blame it on the pandemic and increased demand in online shopping.
Id have no problem buying that argument back in March, April or May of 2020BUT NOT NOW.
Its my opinion that Amazon was losing money on the 2-day shipping guarantee and is using the current situation as a handy way to get rid of the fast shipping guarantee altogether.
Id be SHOCKED if 2-Day Prime shipping ever came back at this point.
So the bottom line is get your $10 refund NOW before they arent so generous.
The customer service rep also told me that MANY people are calling to cancel Prime, she said she had already cancelled over 50 memberships in the past couple days.
Heres what a chat rep told me when I asked him if Prime members were complaining about the issue:

Service Available To Prime Members In A Dozen Us Metro Areas
The worlds largest marketplace just took another step toward delivery ubiquity.
Amazon wants to deliver anything, anywhere, anytime, and on Monday the e-commerce giant announced the launch of a new option for same-day shipping of products from local retail stores. The service, first reported in May, is available to Prime members in and around Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas, Miami, Phoenix, Seattle, Washington and other U.S. cities.
For now, only a few retailers are available on the platform, namely PacSun, GNC, SuperDry and Diesel. The service is free for Prime customers who spend $25 on their order and $2.99 for those who spend less. Amazon noted in a blog post that some brands will offer the option for buy online, pick up in store.
While Amazon has offered same-day delivery services for years, store-to-door deliveries from local retailers are uncharted territory for the e-commerce powerhouse.
Amazon Changed Customer Expectations Regarding Shipping Now Its Changing Them Again
One of Amazons core principles is customer obsession, a vigorous desire to earn and keep customer trust. Put simply, customer obsession means giving the customer what they want as cheaply and quickly as possible say, within 48 hours at the expense of profits.
Anne Goodchild, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Washington who focuses on supply chain transportation and logistics, told me that Amazon significantly altered customer expectations and shopping patterns.
The status quo that we take ourselves to the store, pick up the goods, and go back to our homes. Thats actually a pretty inefficient way of doing the last mile: We all individually use our cars, and that kind of commuting creates a great travel burden, she said. Delivery services, to some extent, have the potential to be an improvement. a lot of deliveries, hopefully, into one vehicle like a UPS truck. They have strong incentives, profit incentives, to do that in an efficient and cost-effective way.
Other retailers have attempted to compete by offering similarly fast shipping. After Amazon, we have things like ShopRunner and even Target saying that if you order certain items, you can get two-day shipping, said Saurabh Ambulkar, a management professor at Northeastern University. I dont see two-day shipping going away. I think theres definitely more and more businesses adopting it.
In a statement, Amazon said it was sticking to its quick delivery promise:

Prime Customers Pay For And Expect Quick Free Shipping They Arent Always Happy About Amazons Cost
Two-day Prime shipping isnt necessarily a thing of the past, but its undeniable that Amazon delivery isnt as seamless as it used to be.
Amazon doesnt deliver some small items, like razors or hair ties, individually. Instead, customers have to purchase $25 worth of goods before Amazon will send out the box with those items the point, according to the company, is to give customers access to low-cost items that would be cost-prohibitive to ship on their own. Since 2011, Amazon has given users the option to have packages delivered to lockers, which are basically branded PO boxes, instead of to their homes or offices. Most recently, Amazon rolled out, a new delivery option that lets customers choose a specific day for all their orders to arrive.
All of this makes sense from a financial perspective. Delivering packages to a single location instead of hundreds of individual homes cuts costs, and requiring customers to meet a delivery minimum for small orders helps Amazon consolidate deliveries, as does the Amazon Day program.
But the response to these new initiatives has been mixed at best.
This is not just around holidays. no longer means what we’ve been brainwashed to think it means. IMO all the other “benefits” stuffed into Prime are meant to distract customers as the core but expensive shipping promise is deliberately eroded
This Story Is Part Of A Group Of Stories Called
In less than two decades, Amazon single-handedly transformed the way we think about online shopping. Before Prime launched in 2005, two-day shipping was virtually unheard of now more than 100 million people use the service, and they expect the things they order online to arrive at their doorsteps in 48 hours or less.
Theres just one problem: Amazon, which has focused on obtaining customers at all costs for decades, seems to be looking for ways to cut down on shipping costs. In some cases, that means weaning Prime users off the near-instantaneous shipping theyve come to expect.
In the beginning, free two-day shipping was Primes biggest draw. Memberships were cheap $79 a year in 2005 and $119 today and users had the option of paying a small fee to get their orders delivered in just one day. Today, Prime is about much more than package delivery: Users can order everything from groceries to a house cleaner through Amazon. But as Amazon has expanded, the promise of free two-day shipping, the main draw of Prime, has begun to come with a lot of caveats.
The result? Prime orders dont necessarily arrive in two days anymore, nor are they always delivered to customers homes. All of this makes sense from a financial perspective, but that may not be enough to win customers over.

How To Offer Same
Sure, you can find same-day delivery options through UPS and FedEx . However, unless youre shipping expensive items to offset the cost, or shipping relatively infrequently to avoid the logistical nightmare, its not going to be very cost-effective.
How much does same-day shipping cost? Using these two carriers, costs will vary based on weight of the shipment, dimensional weight of the package, the number of zones itll cross, and more. You can check out their individual same-day pages for more information.
Ultimately, its not easy to offer same-day delivery as a small or medium-sized eCommerce business. Large eCommerce retailers have their own distribution networks which makes it hard to compete on that level.
Its important to remember, however, that the majority of customers dont expect small and medium-sized eCommerce retailers to offer same-day delivery they expect that from the Amazons and Targets of the world.
For most consumers, 3-5 days was the magic number . With a third-party logistics provider such as The Fulfillment Lab, you can achieve same-day fulfillment, and get your product to customers, in just 1-3 days!
The Importance Of Fast Shipping & Delivery
Unless youre shipping from overseas, making a custom product, or selling a niche item that consumers cant easily get elsewhere, to compete with large eCommerce retailers, you generally have two options:
Studies have shown that 90% of consumers are willing to wait a bit longer for an item if shipping is free. However, many smaller eCommerce companies cant afford to take that kind of a financial hit .
So, the alternative is to offer fast delivery, because if people cant get it free, they want it fast .
Today, studies show that 64% of Millennials and 56% of Gen-Xers are more likely to make an online purchase if same-day delivery is an option . The silver lining here is that if youre able to afford same-day delivery, more than 60% of consumers say they are willing to pay more for same-day delivery.
Despite the demand for same-day delivery service, most of the respondents in a survey of 2,815 U.S consumers still have reasonable expectations, especially when theyre ordering from small and medium-sized eCommerce retailers. In fact, the majority stated that 3-5 days was an acceptable wait time.

How Amazon Sunday Delivery Works
Amazon works with a number of delivery carriers including the U.S. Postal Service, UPS, and independent couriers and carriers.
Not all of these carriers offer Sunday delivery. Notably, UPS does not, although it’s considering adding the service UPS Saturday delivery is already available. The USPS, however, delivers on Sunday for a limited number of customers, including Amazon, and for certain premium services such as Priority Mail Express. That means it is possible to have a postal worker deliver an Amazon package on Sunday, even though regular mail service isn’t available.
Amazon’s basic Prime service, which includes unlimited two-day shipping as well as other services such as streaming music, usually guarantees delivery within two business days, so Sunday delivery is not guaranteed. In some cases, though, some products in some areas may be delivered on Sunday with the usual Prime guarantee.

How To Use Same
Like many things that sound too good to be true, there are certain rules and restrictions for Amazon’s same-day delivery. They’re pretty simple, though, so once you learn the basics you could start getting those smile-stamped boxes at your front door in no time.
Here’s how it works. Order an item that qualifies for Amazon same-day delivery before noon, and it will arrive at your home by 9 p.m. Order it after noon and you’ll get it the next day. The service is even available seven days a week , but don’t expect it to be available on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day or New Year’s Day. Other holidays and major shopping days will mean limited availability too.
You’d think that kind of speed would be expensive, but it’s really not. If you have an Amazon Prime membership , same-day delivery is $5.99 for orders under $35, but if you spend more than that, it’s actually free. Without a membership, you can still take advantage of this fast shipping option, but it will cost a bit more $8.99 plus $0.99 per item.
So what’s the catch? For one, Amazon same-day delivery is available on only about a million items. While that may sound like a lot, it’s actually just a tiny fraction of the estimated 253 million products for sale in the company’s massive online store . It even pales in comparison to the 20 million items currently eligible for free two-day shipping through Amazon Prime.
Using Prime On A Sunday
Prime sometimes offers free same-day delivery or even free delivery within two hours, the latter through a service called Prime Now. Prime Now is available seven days a week, including Sunday, but it’s only available in certain ZIP codes around the country and for certain items.
In some areas, Prime Now delivers groceries from Whole Foods and meals from various nearby restaurants on Sundays.
Free same-day or next-day delivery on some items is available for Prime members for orders over $35, or Prime members can pay extra to have smaller orders delivered the same day they are ordered. Amazon users who aren’t in the Prime program can sometimes pay to expedite orders, even to have them delivered the same day or next day including on Sunday.

Amazon Prime delivery is now available in as little as five hours in more neighborhoods in Chicago, as well as in three entirely new metro areas.
Amazon is rolling out its faster same-day delivery service to members of its Prime paid membership program in Miami, Minneapolis, and Atlanta. The e-tail giant is also expanding the range of the expedited service in Chicago, where it began offering faster same-day delivery in August 2021.
The company introduced the service in 2020, in Philadelphia, Phoenix, Orlando, and Dallas followed by the addition of Nashville and Washington, D.C. Faster same-day delivery gives Amazon customers the option to order certain items for rapid delivery, in as fast as five hours.

Customers can also place a faster same-day delivery order by midnight for overnight delivery. The service is free to Prime members on qualifying orders over $35. Most deliveries occur within hours after the order is placed:
The fastest same-day delivery to-date was made in 22 minutes in Dallas, according to Amazon.
This Perk Adds More Value To A Prime Membership
Shoppers will likely see this new service as a valuable benefit — especially if they prefer to avoid shopping in person and value fast delivery speeds.
Earlier in 2022, Amazon raised the price of a yearly Amazon Prime membership from $119 to $139. Members had to decide if the benefits were still worth the price increase.
Since that time, the brand has added additional perks. Most recently, Amazon partnered with GrubHub to offer Prime members a free year of Grubhub+.
Same-day delivery from participating local retailers is the latest offering that Amazon has granted to Prime members.
If you’re not yet an Amazon Prime member and have been thinking of joining, review the membership benefits, including the .
Of course, you should also consider your budget and spending habits before taking the plunge.
