When Bluetooth is on, your tablet is discoverable.

To connect to other devices, make sure the device you want to connect to is discoverable and then head to Settings > Wireless & Bluetooth > Pair Bluetooth Device. Your Fire tablets will scan for the device and you can choose the one you want to connect to from the list.

*Below is the original article, if you happen to be running the legacy version of Fire OS on an early generation Fire tablet:

Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the notification bar and tap More.

Select Wireless from the settings screen.

On the Wireless page tap Bluetooth.

Here is where the make visible button isnt very obvious. On the Bluetooth screen, tap the devices Name.

This should set the Kindle Fire to be visible for two minutes so you can pair your devices. If you cant get it set up quick enough, just click it again to give yourself another two minutes.

Amazon Fire 7 Review: Still Basic But Unbeatable Value

Not a big step forward but the Amazon Fire 7 remains unbeatably good value for money

The Amazon Fire 7 tablet is the perfect example of what makes Amazon such a tough company to compete with. As a product, its nothing special but its so keenly priced that no other manufacturer can come close to matching its combination of features for the money. Any competitive product they could theoretically make would be produced at a loss.

The new model, which Amazon is simply calling the Fire 7 continues this trend. Its ultra-cheap and conservatively designed, but it does the job well.

Just open up a Cast-enabled app on an iOS or Android device, and a Cast button should appear on the screen. Select YouMap from the Cast menu, then select a video or song from your phone or tablet. It should start playing through the Fire TV. Still, I was pleasantly surprised by how many apps did work.

Check Volume Level On Your Fire

It sounds incredibly obvious but you would be amazed at how many people overlook this most basic of checks. The volume buttons are on the outside of the Fire and it is easy to accidentally press them.

Test the volume by pressing the volume up button a few times. You should see the volume slider on the screen reflect the change. While this isnt a hardware problem per se, its an easy problem to fix and its related to your Fires hardware.

You can also check the settings for volume. There are different versions of media volume on the Fire tablet. Depending on your model tap the cog in the upper right-hand corner or pull down from the top. Ensure that all volume options are turned up.

If youre going through the settings click on the option for sounds . Toggle the switches and turn up the volume to get it working again.

Google Play Store is the most widely used app repository with thousands of apps, games, and utilities. For instance, Amazon FireStick and Fire TV devices have Amazon Store and they do not support Play Store. Sadly, Amazons app inventory isnt as large and thats why FireStick users often go seeking other options.

As weve seen previously, this new model doesnt add much to Amazons tried and tested design. The plastic chassis has identical measurements to 2017s Fire 7 tablet and it has the same size and resolution screen at 7in and 1,024 x 600.

Like the last model, this new Fire 7 has two fixed-focus cameras one at the front and one at the rear plus a microSD card slot, a single speaker and a 3.5mm headphone jack. As with all of Amazons homebrew tablets, it runs Amazons own software and app store, gives users direct access to Amazons music, video, ebook and shopping services but restricts access to Google Play.

Whats different about this model, however, is that it has full, hands-free Alexa compatibility, extra storage and comes in new colours.

Amazon Fire 7 Review: Alexa Support

The Alexa support is the big new feature with this model but, just to be clear, its nothing new when it comes to Amazons Fire tablets. With the previous update to the Fire 7, Amazon was also boasting about its Alexa functions and the Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 both have Alexa baked in as well.

So what on Earth is Amazon going on about here? The difference is in how the 2019 model supports Amazons digital butler: Alexa is now completely hands-free, which means you no longer have to hold down a button on the screen to talk to your smart assistant. This tablet is, effectively, a slimline smart speaker.

As with Amazons 8in and 10in Fire HD tablets, its a function that works rather well. You get added visuals with certain requests and tips that help users learn how to use Alexa. Its a great introduction to the technology.

Dont expect it to perform exactly like a full-blown Echo speaker, however. The microphones arent as sensitive, for a start. Step away from the tablet a bit too far, add a bit of background noise into the equation and your pleas for Alexas attention will fall on deaf ears.

Aside from this, Alexa on the Fire 7 is just as fully featured as it is on the Echo speakers, with no restrictions on features such as calling, messaging or drop-in. And one bonus is that, when the tablet is used in the same room as another Echo speaker with the same wake word , only one device will respond.

Kindle Fire’s Shortcomings: Little Storage No Bluetooth

While the Kindle Fire appears to be a great value, Amazon did cut a few corners to get to its impressively affordable $199 price tag. Are they deal breakers or just minor issues?

Often at big product launches, the devil’s in the details, and companies sometimes conveniently forget to mention some features that may be perceived as negatives.

In launching the Kindle Fire, the big headline for Amazon was the tablet’s impressively affordable $199 price tag. As Jeff Bezos said multiple times, “We are building premium products and offering them at nonpremium prices,” and it’s hard to argue with him when it comes to both the Kindle Fire and the new e-ink Kindles. But now that some of the euphoria over the launch has ebbed, folks are starting to look more closely at some of the potential shortcomings of the device.

Big on my list is the limited 8GB of storage, with only 6GB usable and the apparent lack of Bluetooth .

Performance The Fire 7s Performance Is Acceptable Even If The Cameras Are Forgettable

How to find Bluetooth on the Amazon fire tablet…(quick and easy)

The Amazon Fire 7 isnt the tablet for intense gaming sessions or picture editing, and nothing makes that clearer than the fairly low-end internals. Theres a mere 1GB RAM, paired with a 1.3Ghz processor. That amount of RAM stands out as being particularly low and youll notice it when jumping between apps.

Theres a lag and judder when opening apps that you dont get with pricier tablets. However, and again I come back to the price, I can forgive that when its only £50.

Youll notice lag when gaming, too, but basic things like browsing and email are a lot smoother.

There are two cameras on the Fire 7: one on the front, which caps out at 720p video, and another on the back, which is 2 megapixels. Neither are very good and, to be completely honest, I would be all for ditching the cameras completely if it allowed Amazon to add a bit more RAM. The camera is slow to focus and shoot, it struggles when the light isnt bright and generally will be beaten by any phone youve got in your pocket.

    Try Out Different Media

Most media files have separate codecs for audio and video, and its possible that you might be playing a file for which your Kindle Fire has the appropriate video playback software, but not the right audio software.

Try a different file format if youre watching a movie, try a song, if youre on YouTube, try Pandora or Spotify.

Try a couple of different media types if the Fire has audio for some types of media but not for other types of media, then youve isolated the cause to a software issue and you should update the software for your device.

I always find it a little cynical when calls a slightly updated version of one of its products “all-new” when it really isn’t. The latest version of Amazon’s entry-level tablet, the Fire 7 , is very similar to the 2017 version — it looks identical except for some new color options — but it’s got some small upgrades on the inside, namely a “faster” processor, according to Amazon, and a bump in the base storage from 8GB to 16GB, with a microSD expansion slot that lets you add up to 512GB of additional storage. A model with 32GB of internal storage is also available.

Design The Amazon Fire 7 Is A Rugged Plastic Tablet That Can Take A Beating

Amazon Fire 7" 32GB Wifi Tablet

The Amazon Fire 7 is about as far away from the iPad Pro and Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 as its possible to get. Considering this tablet costs a penny under £50 , this should hardly come as a surprise, but you might be shocked at just how budget this slate feels the first time you pick it up.

Its built completely out of plastic, with buttons that feel a bit mushy and a rear casing that seems like it should pop off completely. Its basic, but thats not necessarily a bad thing. You wont worry about this tablet getting scratched in your bag, or about giving to your kids.

The Fire 7 comes in Plum , Black, Sage and Blue

Because of its plastic construction, its also very light and can be comfortably held in one hand for reading.

As the name suggests, the Amazon Fire 7 has a 7-inch display. This makes it Amazons smallest tablet and among the dinkiest weve reviewed. With its slim 16:9 display, its a lot narrower than the 7.9-inch iPad Mini and it was small enough to slip into the pocket of one of my larger coats.

All the ports and physical controls are on the top which is a bit odd until you get used to it and comprise a 3.5mm headphone jack, micro USB port for charging, volume rocker and lock switch. As USB-C is so common now, it irks me that Amazon is sticking with the tired older style. However, if youre someone with a bunch of micro USB cables lying around, you probably wont find it so much of a nuisance.
