Whole Foods Market online shoppers are set to lose a key perk of their $119-per-year Amazon Prime membership: free two-hour delivery of groceries on orders of at least $35.
Starting Oct. 25, parent company Amazon plans to charge a $9.95 fee for Whole Foods delivery orders chainwide, with additional rush fees for one-hour delivery orders. The change will come less than two months after Amazon announced a test of a $9.95 fee for two-hour deliveries including Prime member in six metropolitan markets.

Amazon had notified Whole Foods customers of the pilot for delivery charge described as a service fee and due to kick in Aug. 30 in selected cities in an email and an online in an FAQ. The FAQ now says the $9.95 delivery fee will be instituted across Whole Foods, though at the time of test Amazon didnt report whether the fee would be expanded to more market areas.
Starting Oct. 25, 2021, a service fee will be implemented on Whole Foods Market delivery orders, Amazon said in the FAQ. Currently, the service fee is included on delivery orders in Portland, ME Providence, RI Manchester, NH and the greater Detroit, Boston and Chicago areas.

Because groceries will be dropped at your door, you have to remember to watch out for them. This is especially important if the weather is warm and you’ve ordered meat and frozen foods. You will get an email letting you know your order is out for delivery and when it’s been dropped off.
Fresh has more limited options than my grocery store and some items like milk are more expensive, so using this service may reduce but not eliminate trips to the store for many households. Amazon has its own milk brand that’s much cheaper than my local grocery, but it sells out quickly.
Items go out of stock more often than they do in my local grocery store, and they take time to restock. I sometimes have to put off shopping for a day or two until the things I need are available again.
An environmental downside is that lot of packaging is used. My most recent order came in five paper bags. I also regularly order groceries from Target for pickup. At Target, three bags would have been used for all the items that came in five bags from Fresh. Two of those bags had insulated bag liners inside to protect perishable items. That’s seven bags for about 20 items. All the bags are recyclable, but it’s still a lot of waste.

How Far Does Whole Foods Deliver
Whole Foods does not specify a radius for deliveries. However, you can head to the Amazon website and type in your zip code. Amazon will then alert you if you have any Whole Foods close enough to qualify for the delivery service.
If you dont qualify for delivery because you are located too far from your nearest store, you can still order online and pick your groceries up in-store.

That’s right, the king of e-commerce on Tuesday said it dropped the fee for its Amazon Fresh grocery service from $14.99 a month down to zero. You still have to be a Prime member, which costs $119 annually, to use Amazon Fresh.
The change undercuts rival Walmart’s new Delivery Unlimited program, which costs $12.95 a month and was just introduced in September.
“We think this offering is going to be a game changer and will grow into one of the most loved benefits of Prime,” Stephenie Landry, Amazon’s vice president of grocery delivery, said in an interview.
To avoid overloading its network with new orders, Amazon decided to allow its current Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods delivery customers to start using the service for free first. Everyone else will have to request an invite, with Amazon adding new folks on a rolling basis daily. Amazon Fresh is available in 21 major markets, so you should check if your ZIP code is included before piling up an order of seafood, ice cream and milk.
