Fba Vs Fbm: A Quick Summary
To know what FBA is and whether or not its your cup of tea, youll also need to know what FBM is. Clear? OK, hold on.
- FBA stands for Fulfillment by Amazon
- FBM is Fulfillment by Merchant
The choice between the two is yours, and its the same choice whether youre an Individual or a Professional seller.
Fulfillment basically refers to the whole process that comes after a sale is made: packaging, shipping, customer service, even returns. Of course, Amazons fulfillment capabilities are world-famous, and they pride themselves on great customer service. So having Amazon handle fulfillment for you could be an ideal solution.
But of course, theres a price attached to FBA several, in fact. Just remember that, while it can get costly, FBA could also save you both time and money, by cutting down your own costs in logistics and so on. On the other hand, if you already have all of that up and running, or if you want to keep close control of everything, FBA might not look like such a good deal at all.
So, which to choose? Its a decision youll have to make yourself, probably with a calculator either your own, or Amazons own FBA revenue calculator.
A couple of other things to note here.
Firstly, some sellers list the same product as both FBA and FBM, meaning that its possible to give customers both options. And secondly, FBA also allows for multi-channel fulfillment, which means that Amazon can fulfill orders that are placed through retailers other than Amazon.
Individual Vs Professional Amazon Seller Accounts
The first difference youll notice between an Individual Amazon seller account and a Professional account is the price:
The Professional account costs $39.99 per month while the Individual account is free. The Individual account comes with a $0.99 per item sold fee though, and the differences dont end there.
If you are just looking to sign up for a free Individual account, you can learn how to do that here. As of March 2021, there is still an option to sign up for an Individual account. If you are one of the many people who have tried to set up an Individual account but keep being asked to pay for a Professional account make sure you read the updates.

So, technically speaking, you are still dealing with a limited amount of shipping costs.
However, Amazon has Partnered Carrier options that enable sellers to ship products to Amazon fulfillment centers at a dramatically reduced cost.
When you use an Amazon-partnered carrier, the company provides you with a shipping label for boxes youre sending to the warehouse. The cost is billed to your FBA account as an inbound transportation charge.
