Make sure that youve typed in the correct password. Remember that router passwords are case-sensitive, so be careful to record the right use of capital letters in your password. If you are 100% certain that your password is correct, try restarting Alexa and start the process over.

Can I Tether Alexa To My Phone

Yes you can. In the past, youd have needed two phones to achieve this because your phone cant run a Wi-Fi hotspot at the same time as being connected to the Echos hotspot, as it has to be to change Wi-Fi networks.

Fortunately Amazon realised that customers wanted to do this and added a feature which allows an Echo to connect to a mobile hotspot. Heres how it works.

First, turn on your Echo. Wait for it to power up and then press and hold the action button until it goes into setup mode. This is indicated by a revolving orange light. Alexa should also announce Now in setup mode. Please follow the instructions in your Alexa app.

Open the Alexa app on your phone, it might detect an Echo in setup mode and you can tap Continue.

If not, tap the three horizontal lines at the top left to bring up the menu and tap Add Device.

Tap on Amazon Echo and then choose your model from the list. We are setting up a second-gen Echo, but the process is the same for all.

You should see a prompt asking if you can see the orange light. Tap Yes and the app will try to connect to the Echo. If it fails, go to your phones Wi-Fi settings and tap the Amazon-XXX network and tap Connect. Some Android phones may ask if you really want to connect since there is no internet connection. Be sure to approve this request.

Next, type these in exactly as they appear: they are case sensitive.

    How To Connect Your First

How Do I Connect Alexa To My Cell Phone

After you’ve tried all the typical troubleshooting options for your Echo device, you need to move on to your absolute last resort before replacing the whole device.

You’ll need to be close to your device and have access to the Alexa app for iOS or Android in order to fix the issue.

Before you follow through with the steps below, put the Echo into setup mode. This will help your device search for nearby Wi-Fi networks.

To do this, press and hold the action button on the top of the device for at least 15 seconds. You’ll be able to know if your device is in setup mode because the Echo light ring color system will turn orange.

Once the light turns orange, move forward connecting your device with your Wi-Fi network.

    • Open your Alexa app
    • Choose the device you want to connect
    • Select Change next to Wi-Fi Network
    • Follow on-screen instructions

At this point, your Alexa app will try and search for your Alexa device in order to connect the Echo to a wireless signal.

The app won’t be able to complete this step because it won’t be able to read your device correctly. Instead of giving up or contacting Amazon, keep attempting to connect your device.

After about three or four unsuccessful connections, your Alexa app will prompt you to try another method.

This method will involve connecting your phone to a local Amazon internet server. When you connect to this server, Amazon will be able to manually connect your Echo device back to your home’s internet.

Move The Amazon Echo Away From Wi

Imagine an invisible line between your Amazon Echo and your router, taking note of everything that it crosses. If the connection goes through a wall, it may be worth positioning the router or the Amazon Echo to avoid it, as the wall may be interfering with the signal.

Likewise, if there are any metal objects or Wi-Fi-enabled devices in the way, move them out of the way or position your Echo and router around them. These also can mess up your connection and make it spotty.

Does Amazon Offer A Warranty For Echo Devices

Assuming that there is something wrong with your Echo device, Amazon does offer a one-year limited warranty. If youre still within the one-year warranty period you can visit this website for more information on filing a claim.

As long as your Echo wasnt a refurbished model and it doesnt have any physical damage, filing a claim for a replacement device shouldnt be an issue.

If Your Echo Speaker Is The Source Of The Problem Do This

If you find that your Echo device is the issue, try unplugging it from the wall for at least three seconds and plugging it back in. Then, try placing it in the same room as your router, to begin with, as the signal could be too weak. If this works, your speaker was likely too far away from your router.

If it’s still not connecting to the Wi-Fi, you’ll need to reset the speaker. However, you should note that factory resetting your Echo will completely erase all your data — but this shouldn’t be a concern if it’s a new device you’re setting up.
