The 7 Essential Elements Of Your Book To Get More Sales
Thirty seconds. As an author thats about all the time you have when talking to someone to generate interest in your book.
You may be thinking right now: Wait, where are the promotion strategies? How can I sell thousands of books a month? We will get to that. However, before you begin to think about selling a truckload of books, you must first engineer it from the ground up to prepare for future sales. You must make your book appealing enough to the reader to catch their interest.
When it comes to selling a book, you have a short window to convince someone that your book is the best investment they are about to make. You can do this right away by sticking with the 7 essentials were about to show you.
Cover Design Description & Keywords
After you have finished writing your book, you need to do a lot of the back end stuff.
This includes making a cover. A lot of customers DO judge a book by its cover. So try to make it as professional as possible.
Personally, I use PicMonkey to design my covers because it is super easy to make them look professional. I used to use PhotoShop, but it was a bit too expensive.
Secondly, youll need to write a description for your book.
Most people gloss over this step, but its really important. Think of the description like a sales letter for you book. You need to hook in readers and get them to smash that buy button.
Finally is your keywords.
If you have ever blogged, or built websites, or created niche sites, then you know what Im talking about.
When you publish a book on Amazon KDP, you are required to have keywords. These are basically words or tags that will help your book get discovered.
Think about what a customer would search for a book in that specific genre and use them.
After 6 Months Of Selling Books On Amazon This Is How Much I Made
One day in November of 2017 I decided to reorganize my office. I discovered that I had way too many books for my available bookshelf space. I considered donating the books, but I decided to research selling books on Amazon based on a friends suggestion.
As a customer, I think Amazon is great. I am a card-carrying Prime member. I have the Amazon credit card, and I have been known to shop at Whole Foods. I was very curious to explore the perspective of an Amazon Seller.

Nearly 100% Passive Income
Most passive income streams arent really 100% passive. If you own a rental property, you have to deal with repairs, tenants, and even showing the house.
If you own a niche site, you have to deal with things like the website crashing, affiliate programs going out of business, and so on and so forth.
But my erotica income is almost 100% passive.
I only spend a few hours a month managing this business and it brings in enough money to cover my rent .
Once you hit publish, youll be able to collect royalties as long as Amazon is in business.
Thats rightyou can make money 24/7!
Package Older Books With Fragile Dust Jackets In Polybags
Older hardcover books can have fragile dust jackets that dont play nicely with Amazon barcodes.
When I sell a book like this, Ill typically protect the cover by putting the book in a plastic polybag. I find a 10 x 13 polybag mailer is big enough for the vast majority of books I send in, so that size should work for you as well.
If you need poly mailers, I recommend the PACKZON brand, which can be found on Amazon.
Theres nothing special about them when compared to other mailers, theyre just surprisingly cheap when purchased in bulk.

Ship With Fbm At The Beginning
While youre still new at selling books on Amazon, use FBM for shipping. This means that youre responsible for packing and shipping all the orders. Since you will only have a small inventory and few orders to fulfill, the workload should be manageable.
Remember, if you opt for FBM, it means YOU are handling everything, including customer service.
Assemble A Great Beta
In addition to an editor, a great ARC team, and your own expertise, it’s handy to have a dedicated team of beta readers to help out.
Beta readers are great for giving you feedback from the reader perspective . If several of your beta readers identify the same problem, then it’s probably a good idea to fix that problem.
We recommend this great guide on how to build your beta-reader team.
How Did You Get Into This
So how in the world does someone stumble across selling erotica?
Well, I read a blog post from Robert Kochs blog, 30 Days to X. He had a short blog post about how he made money selling erotica.
Well, I figured it wasnt rocket science so I gave it a try!
I started writing my first book and published it about a week later. And guess what? I sold my first copy that night when I went to watch a football game at a friends house.
Even though I only made $2 from that sale, it got me HOOKED. I wanted to make more money.
So I started publishing more and more over the next few months. It was a few months of growing pains.
I made a lot of mistakes and some books I published never even sold a copy.
But I learned a lot through that experience and pushed through.
It has been a few years since then, but my erotica publishing income has grown considerably since then and Im quite happy with the results.
Could The Inventory Dry Up
Of course, Charlie isnt the only person sifting through thrift and goodwill stores and flipping books for profit. These stores want to make as much money as possible too, so I asked him if he thought they would start selling the inventory directly on Amazon in the future.
He said he has seen some books on Amazon being sold by Goodwill, so some stores are doing it. But for the most part, Charlie doesnt think they will start selling their books on Amazon anytime soon.
A lot of thrift store owners dont want to deal with the online thing, Charlie told me.
One interesting idea Charlie is pursuing is working out consignment deals with some of his best sourcing spots. In this scenario, hed take responsibility for selling their inventory on Amazon, and sharing a portion of the proceeds with the store. The big advantage would be essentially eliminating his book scanning competition.

Selling Books On Amazon Tips And Secrets
In addition to all the information provided on selling books on Amazon, here are some additional tips to keep in mind along with things to avoid. First, lets see what the best type of books and categories to sell on Amazon are
- Health, fitness, and dieting
- Religion and spirituality
The market for novels is not remarkable because novels lose their popularity over short durations. Selling textbooks is the safest bet because they are always in demand thanks to them being part of school curriculums. These books as well as hardcover ones also make for improved profit margins as they are sold at higher prices.
Books that fall under the collectibles category like first edition books or those signed and autographed by authors are good choices to sell.
Another trick to selling books on Amazon is to provide lightning deals, discounts, coupons, and buy one get one free offer. Promotions like these help increase your visibility and encourage people to buy. Advertising also comes into play in that it increases sales and improves your reputation.
Updating and tracking your inventory is important to ensure that every time a book is close to going out of stock, you will have to secure a restock from your suppliers on time.

How To Sell Books On Amazon Step # 2 What Books Should You Sell
If youre serious about making money by selling second-hand books on Amazon, then you need to make the most of the tools at your disposal such as the Best Sellers Rank .
Theres a top 100 Best Sellers in Books, but the list goes way past 100.
All products that have been sold at least once on Amazon are ranked in terms of their popularity in their category, so all books rank somewhere.
Its possible to check out their ranking by clicking on a product page and scrolling down to the product details:
For example, Lin-Manuel Mirandas motivational book Gmorning, Gnight!: Little Pep Talks for Me & You is currently listed at #64 on the list. This means its extremely popular and selling well on Amazon its ranked 64th out of all the books available.
The better your books ranking , the more competition you will have to shift copies. Youll need to do something to really stand out such as selling the book very cheaply, which could result in you actually losing money rather than making a profit.
Conversely, if your book is further down the list and has a higher BSR, the less likely you are to sell it quickly . You dont want this slow movers will not make you money.
When youre initially deciding on which books to sell, aim for a happy medium. Start off with books with a BSR of between 2,000 and 200,000. Experiment and see which sell quickly or slowly.
You should use the Best Seller Rank to inform your selling decisions, but not limit them.

Check Facebook Marketplace For Cheap Textbooks And Book Collections
Browsing through the Facebook Marketplace offers from time to time is another good sourcing method. Many people sell their books for far less than their true value, so it can be quite profitable to scout through this online source and score some quick and easy profits. Again, double-check that the person youre buying from isnt another seller so you can avoid buying a batch of duds.

Pick The Perfect Categories
When picking your categories as an Amazon seller, you want to strike a balance between relevance and non-competitiveness.
If your category isnt relevant, readers will be upset because they felt they were promised certain story elements by the category that the author didnt deliver.
If your category is too competitive, you face little chance of becoming the #1 bestselling author in your category. If you make it to #1 in your category, thats a huge marketing tool with lasting power.
From then on, you can boast in every piece of marketing that your book was #1 in whatever category on Amazon.
You can add extra categories by contacting KDP Support.
Use Removable Labels For Your Amazon Barcodes
Nobody likes non-removable labels that take five minutes of picking and scratching to get off entirely. Its annoying, the label doesnt even come off entirely, and youll usually end up damaging the book in the process.
Your primary focus when prepping a book should be making sure the customer who ends up buying your book is as happy as possible with their purchase. One of the best ways to do this is to use a removable label that doesnt piss the customer off when they try to remove it.
I use these removable DYMO-compatible labels from Betckey. They stick to books like glue but peel off easily when you pull at a corner. And theyre size 30334, so theyll also work seamlessly with the Accelerlist and Inventorylab label requirements.
