Eric, a marketplace logistics expert based in Shenzhen, China, told Which? that brushing is widespread and systematic.
The reason for sending out the packages is to feed the Amazon algorithm, the more you sell, the higher your ranking is, he told Which?
If you want to pay , its easy, he said. Asked to comment on the survey findings, he said he was not surprised that our findings indicated brushing could be widespread in the UK, potentially involving millions of parcels.
He believes that Amazon should do more to crack down on brushing to make the platform a level playing field for legitimate sellers.
Brushing has been going on for at least a decade. The only reason it has now gone wild is because e-commerce has been accelerating very rapidly, especially because of the pandemic.
David Li, director of Shenzhen Open Innovation Lab, a cross border e-commerce expert, described brushing as seen as simply a cost of doing business for some sellers. He said brushing was widely used as a tactic and that a cottage industry of professional service providers who run a network of people with cards had sprung up to facilitate it.
In the Amazon universe, brushing is just a cost of doing business very similar to buying ads or getting an Amazon certified logo. Generally, its a marketing expense, he said.

How To Manage Seller Fulfilled Orders In Seller Central
If you are listing products via FBM, that means you will be handling the fulfillment of orders yourself. Once you receive an order, you will need to fulfill it by purchasing a shipping label and marking the order as shipped all of which can be done in Seller Central.
To view your orders, go to the Orders tab and click on Manage Orders.
You will see any unfulfilled FBM orders here. You can also view your FBA orders in this section.
How To Use This New Feature
Lets dive into who can use this feature, how to use it, and why you might want to.
First of all, this is only for those who have Amazon Brand Registry. If you do, in seller central, go to the Brands Menu, and select Customer Reviews.
You will then be brought to a page where it clearly says that you can now send direct messages to customers who left you a 1-3 star rating!
Now, the first thing to know is that this JUST got released, and there seems to be a few bugs in some accounts. For example, in both the Project X and Project 5K accounts, for some negative reviews, there is no button to contact the buyer. Instead we get a message saying that You can contact the buyer only when you are the seller for that order.
However, this obviously WAS a product that we were the only seller for, so we had to open a case with Amazon to get that fixed.

You should see a contact buyer button there. Now this is where things start to get interesting. Notice what pops up when you hit that button:
Wow. So Amazon is obviously completely fine with you outright offering a full refund or replacement item to the person who left a bad review.
The fact that this is now the first option should put to rest that debate.
