What Is Amazon Aws Lambda

Introduction to Amazon EC2 – Elastic Cloud Server & Hosting with AWS

In this blog, we will discuss the concept of AWS Lambda which a serverless compute service offered by the Amazon. You must be wondering when there are so many compute services like Amazon EC2, AWS Elastic beanstalk, AWS OpsWorks, Lightsail etc are available already then what is special with AWS Lambda services?

Here, you will explore what is AWS Lambda, and where should you use it. Let us start our discussion with basic concepts first then we will deep dive to a practical example of Lambda services later.

How Does Amazon Ec2 Work

Its pretty simple to get up and running with Amazon EC2. You have a choice of pre-configured, templated Amazon Machine Images to use for a quick launch. Or, if you prefer, you can create your own AMI that contains all of your libraries, data, applications and relevant configuration settings.

Amazon EC2 allows you to customize settings by configuring security and network access. After you do that, you determine your AMI instances and whether or not you want to run in multiple locations. Youll also want to decide if you want static IP endpoints. You can do all of this in the AWS Console with minimum friction.

Once youre ready to get started, youll boot, terminate and monitor as many instances as needed. You can do this through a web service or a variety of available management tools. And, as I mentioned above, youll pay only for the resources you use.

The services elasticity supports the minimized costs that come with a pay-for-what-you-use billing model. Because you can instantly scale your VM environment to address usage spikes or drops, you have the power to control the number of resources being used at any point in time.

This differs from traditional on-premise hosting, which typically gives you a fixed amount of resources for a set amount of time. That means you typically dont have the chance to quickly react to a change in usage like you can in a reliable, secure and elastic Amazon EC2 environment.

How Much Does Aws Cost

The cost of implementing AWS cloud services depends on the scale and nature of a companys day-to-day needs.

A key advantage that comes with migrating to AWS cloud services is that it offers a highly-flexible and cost-effective pricing structure. This helps to make cloud computing accessible to businesses of any size.

AWS pricing operates on a pay-as-you-go model across all its services users only pay for what they need for as long as its needed. There are no termination fees associated with stopping an AWS service when it is no longer required. The best way to calculate estimated costs is by using Amazons AWS price calculators.

How Does Amazon Dynamodb Work

ike other databases, DynamoDB stores its data in tables. Each table contains a set of items, and each item has a set of fields or attributes. Each table must have a primary key, present in all items within the table, and this primary key can be either a single attribute or a combination of two attributes: a partition key and a sort key. You can reference specific items in a table by using the primary key, or by creating indices of your own and using the keys from those indices.

There isnât one single server hosting your DynamoDB table. Instead, the data is distributed across many machinesâ this guarantees scalability and high performance, but it also means you canât connect to a database host and query your data directly. To write and read items to and from a DynamoDB table, youâll need to use the DynamoDB HTTP API, either directly or by using the AWS SDK or the AWS CLI. Also, you can batch your reads and writes to DynamoDB tables, even across different tables at once. DynamoDB supports transactions, automated backups, and cross-region replication.

How Does Aws Database Migration Service Work

Working in an AWS Data Center | Amazon Web Services
  • Before using the AWS Database Migration Service, you must link your source database to it. After reading the data and formatting it to meet the needs of your target database, the service sends the data in accordance with the migration task you have specified.
  • DMS begins keeping an eye on any changes to your database as soon as replication from source to destination begins. AWS DMS CDC, often referred to as Change Data Capture processes are used for this.
  • The Database Migration Service goes through any cached objects and makes any necessary changes to the target, and until you transfer your workloads and shut down your source database, the service keeps checking for and caching changes.

So I Shouldnt Join Aws

All this said, should you sign aboard with AWS? The answer is a strong maybe!

Will you work with great people, push the envelope, be paid well in the grand scheme of things, and learn a lot? Probably!

But it will greatly depend upon which team and which people you work with. There are jerks and losers at every big company. Some folks love their time at AWS while others hate it.

My advice is this: Take the role if and only if it benefits what youre really looking for. Will you get to work with people you think are the best on the problems that interest you the most? Take the job! Otherwise, make sure you think through the decision long and hard, as there are many variables to considerjust like there are with most things in life.

Q3 What Are The Cons Of Aws

Some cons associated with AWS are extra payment for supportive packages for intensive or immediate response. You might also face some cloud computing problems in AWS when moving from a cloud server, like backup protection and downtime. Also, the application on the cloud doesnt offer great performance when there is a sudden change in your hardware system.

What Is Amazon S3

Using the Amazon WorkDocs API with the AWS SDK for Python and AWS ...

Amazon S3 is a type of object storage that can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data, from anywhere on the Internet, whenever its needed. In short, object storage is a type of data storage structure that handles data as objects rather than in a file hierarchy or in the form of blocks. The data, metadata, and a unique identifier code is usually contained within an object.

Using Amazon S3, users are able to build applications that also utilize Internet storage. Since Amazon S3 is highly scalable and customers only pay for whats used, there is the option to start small and grow the application as desired, with absolutely no compromise on performance or reliability.

Serverless Etl Jobs Run In Isolation

AWS Glue runs your ETL jobs in an Apache Spark serverless environment. AWS Glue runs these jobs on virtual resources that it provisions and manages in its own service account.

AWS Glue is designed to do the following:

  • Segregate customer data.

  • Protect customer data in transit and at rest.

  • Access customer data only as needed in response to customer requests, using temporary, scoped-down credentials, or with a customer’s consent to IAM roles in their account.

During provisioning of an ETL job, you provide input data sources and output data targets in your virtual private cloud . In addition, you provide the IAM role, VPC ID, subnet ID, and security group that are needed to access data sources and targets. For each tuple , AWS Glue creates a new Spark environment that is isolated at the network and management level from all other Spark environments inside the AWS Glue service account.

AWS Glue creates elastic network interfaces in your subnet using private IP addresses. Spark jobs use these elastic network interfaces to access your data sources and data targets. Traffic in, out, and within the Spark environment is governed by your VPC and networking policies with one exception: Calls made to AWS Glue libraries can proxy traffic to AWS Glue API operations through the AWS Glue VPC. All AWS Glue API calls are logged thus, data owners can audit API access by enabling AWS CloudTrail, which delivers audit logs to your account.

Data Migration Components With Aws Dms

How does Amazon Web Services (AWS) work?

Replication instance:Replication instances are managed EC2 instances that are used to host replication jobs. There are different types of replication instances:

    • T2/T3: These are used to set up, create, and test database migration processes. These instances can be used to do routine migration tasks.
    • C4: These instances are performance-optimized and suitable for tasks that demand a lot of computing. In these circumstances, heterogeneous migrations are appropriate.
    • R4/R5: These instances, which are optimized for memory, should be utilized for ongoing migrations and high-throughput transactions.

Endpoints:The AWS DMS connects the source and target databases and transfers data using an endpoint. Depending on the database type, the type of endpoint will vary, but all endpoints generally require the same information, including endpoint type, engine type, encryption methods, server name, port number, and credentials.

Here is an illustration of how to create an endpoint in AWS DMS:

Database replication tasks:Replication jobs define how data is transferred between the source and the target. The source and target endpoints, replication instance, and migration type all need to be specified when creating a replication task.
