Amazon has a process referred to as blocks that are used to select the time-frames chosen to set your schedule. These blocks are typically set at 3-4 hour increments.

Here is an example of what a block looks like

Each block includes:

  • The date and the time of the delivery
  • Amount of money youll receive
  • Duration and Fulfilment center Location

You can search through all the available blocks in your area and pick and choose which ones youd like.

Once you select your block it will show up on your home screen as your current schedule

There are some blocks that will have a minimum and an up to amount, like this one

With those, youre definitely going to make the minimum, and the maximum amount depends on Customer Tips.

So for those of you who didnt know, yes Amazon also delivers groceries. You dont do the grocery shopping, the orders will be ready for you at the store. You just go to the store to pick up the groceries and deliver them.

How To Boost Your Amazon Flex Pay

Earning $18 per hour already sounds like a great deal, but what can you do to earn extra money beyond that? You have a few different steps you can take.

To start, you can drive a fuel-efficient vehicle. This is one of the best ways to save money on gas.

Assuming that youre making deliveries in a car , your vehicle operating costs will be a major factor in how much of your earnings you can keep. If you drive a car that costs less to operate overall, that can make Amazon Flex an even more lucrative opportunity.

Pro Tip: Save on gas by using the Gasbuddy app. Its simple, easy, and can save you a ton of money while driving.

Next, you can accept the delivery blocks that pay the most. This is something youll learn with experience, but you should know in particular that Prime Now deliveries offer extra earning potential. This is because customers have the option of leaving you a tip when you make the delivery. The same is true of Amazon Restaurants and AmazonFresh deliveries.

Finally, you need to be willing to take on more deliveries during the holiday season. This is the time of year when demand for Amazon Flex is highest, since people are ordering their holiday gifts.

Things can be crazy this time of year due to the increased volume . The payoff, however, comes in the form of hourly rates that are much closer to the fabled $25 per hour.

So What Might You Be Delivering

Well Drivers for Amazon Flex will deliver items from Amazon.com, Amazon Fresh and Prime Now.

So you can end up delivering random items from groceries, gifts, and anything else that someone might order from Amazon.

Tip #: Recording Your Mileage

Remember that you are not an Amazon employee. Therefore another useful Amazon Flex tip is to record your mileage. As you are a free-operator or free-lancer, you will have to manage your finances when it comes to incoming money against the fuel expenses for the delivery services.

In order to make sure that you are not a loss, you must record your mileage for taxes. This will help you ensure that you are not paying any fuel money out of your pocket. If you are spending more on fuel for deliveries than what you make, it is not worth the time and efforts, right?

Write Your Gas Off As A Business Expense

Amazon Flex – How Much Do I Make?

Amazon doesnt compensate you for gas mileage directly.

However, because Flex is an independent contractor job, you have the opportunity to write off business expenses on your tax return.

Now, doing this wont help you get the money back, per se. But, you can write it off as a deduction on your taxes, which means that you wont have to pay taxes on your gas money.

The IRS has a protocol for gas write-offs called the Standard Mileage Deduction.

Essentially, they allow you to write off a certain amount for gas each year. Currently, the Standard Mileage Rate is 54.5 cents per mile.

So, you should keep a log of all the miles you drive for Amazon Flex during the year . There are multiple apps that will automatically keep track of your mileage for you.

Pro Tip: Keep your receipts so you have proof you spent the money on gas and can easily write each expense off.

Then, at the end of the year, multiply your mileage by 54.5 , and include it as a deduction on your tax form.

Because you depend on your car for work, you can also write off all repairs, maintenance, and any other money you spend to keep your vehicle on the road.

Those new brake pads? Include those in your deduction. Windshield wiper fluid? Write it off.

It helps to have a professional accountant look over your taxes at the end of the year to make sure all of your deductions are in good standing. Youll also avoid getting audited by the IRS this way, too.

How To Start Working

Some delivery driver jobs let you work whenever you want just by going online. Amazon Flex is different and requires you to schedule shifts to start working.

Shifts are called blocks. You can view upcoming delivery blocks and the type of delivery involved within the app.

Blocks also display expected earnings and total delivery time.

Different delivery categories generally have different block lengths:

  • Amazon.com: Three to six hours
  • Prime Now & Amazon Fresh: Two to four hours
  • Store Orders: Two to four hours
  • Instant Offers: Deliveries normally take 15 to 45 minutes

You get a confirmation message in the app when you select a block. Theres also a calendar section that highlights upcoming delivery days.

You can cancel blocks 45 minutes before they start. Canceling a scheduled delivery shift with less notice counts as a missed block, and several missed blocks can result in deactivation from Amazon Flex.

Tip #: Always Keeping Your Amazon Flex App Updated

One of the most critical Amazon Flex tips is to ensure that your app is running the newest version. Amazon usually release updates to their app on a Sunday or Monday. If your app is not up-to-date, it will sign you out of the system automatically.

Yes Amazon Flex Drivers Really Can Make $25 Per Hour

We have to admit: Amazon Flex isnt the most popular app among independent contractor delivery drivers.

Former drivers are continually bashing the company on sites like Glassdoor, Indeed, and Reddit.

One of their biggest gripes with the company is that theyre not making the $25/hour that Amazon said they could.

Between gas mileage, oversized orders, and traffic that makes it nearly impossible to get the job done on time, many drivers find they barely break the $18/hour mark.

While theres hardly anything to be done about traffic or the size of your orders, you can do a few things to work more efficiently.

Hopefully, by following the tips outlined above, youll be able to earn at least a few bucks more than you are right now.

What Their Drivers Have To Say:

How Much Money You Can Make Through Amazon Flex

The app makes 3 4 hour delivery blocks available. If there are any delivery blocks available, you pick up the packages a local warehouse, where a warehouse worker places 3 4 hours worth of packages in front of you. You scan them and put them in your vehicle. The app will open a gps to your first delivery location. Most of the deliveries will be in the same area. They pay direct deposit in 2-3 business days.

This is NOT a reliable source of income. I was using this in between jobs. I had 100% reliability rating and worked hard every day 2 -4 hour blocks a day . All of a sudden, I stopped getting blocks everyday. Then I would get maybe 1 here or there. So I went from being able to support my family to fearing the bills coming up!

A while back someone posted why do you hate apartments so much? today was the answer to that question. I had 11 packages in one complex. The buildings are not well labeled so good luck finding the apartments. I got 7 delivered up and down 3 flights of stairs and took the rest to the leasing office where a worker berated me about being a liar for not attempting delivery first.

That means fewer logistics blocks for Flex drivers, which means the same number of drivers competing for fewer overall blocks.

I take it you didnt read the comments where a couple people have said they do flex full time. But if you did your argument wouldnt have worked so you decided not to. I also never said I would do flex full time. I have said I would do this as a SIDE job in several comments so dont come in here saying you cant do something full time when other people have said they do it. This is similar to ubereats and Im sure people do that full time to. Just because its not the typical job doesnt mean you cant do it full time.

Edit: and there will always be something better than your current full time job so fuck off with if this is better you need a new job thats fucking bullshit and you know it.
