There’s A System Amazon Uses That Tells You How Many Packages You Have In Your Van And Based On The Algorithm Can Tell You If You Are Ahead Or Behind On Your Deliveries In A Prescribed Amount Of Time Per Shift
The Android device Amazon issues its drivers for deliveries is called a “rabbit,” and maps out your deliveries in terms of how many stops you have. The algorithm is loosely based on 20 stops per hour.
Depending on where you deliver like in a city with apartment complexes or suburbs that are dense you can deliver up to 40 packages in an hour, or a delivery every one or two minutes. If you deliver in rural parts of the state, it can be only 17 stops in two hours if you are up in the mountains or on gravel roads.
If you have to go to the bathroom, scope out the nearest public restrooms before your shift. Know where the grocery stores are and public parks with restrooms. Sometimes in developing areas, there’s construction sites with portable toilets. Stay hydrated, but be aware of where you can go if you need to.
If you are a well-organized driver, you can sometimes be up to 15 stops ahead of schedule. If you are ahead, sometimes they will make you “rescue” another driver who is behind and take a few totes from their load. When all your packages have been dropped, you head back to the depot for a final inspection.
Claiming A Delivery Block
Work shifts are typically two to six hours and are available all week long.
You can check the Offers section of the Amazon Flex app and choose the blocks that fit your availability.
Likewise, you can filter blocks according to your availability. Once you find a match, the system will ask you to review the job details such as the block date, the delivery time frame, estimated pay, and the area youll cover.
Once youve claimed a delivery block, it will show on the Calendar section of the app.
If you cannot fulfill your scheduled delivery, make sure to forfeit it around an hour before the start time. You can be penalized if you cancel the job too late.
Amazon Prime Now Delivery
Prime Now is the delivery service of Amazon on steroids.
The customers want to receive what they bought through Prime, such as everyday items, household essentials, and other Amazon products, in as quick as an hour.
From the perspective of a customer, its shopping made ultra-convenient. Consumers order what they need or want from Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods, Monoprix in Paris, or Morrison in Leeds.
Amazon partner drivers then deliver them to their doorsteps lightning-fast for a fee. Amazon wanted to make the customer experience magical, even giving the code name Houdini when developing the concept.
It gives a seamless shopping experience with an I-just-clicked-the-buy-button-and-its-already-here approach.
As a delivery driver, you will get a one-hour or two-hour window to complete the jobs.
Since customers pay a premium for this service, keep in mind the time-sensitive nature of the delivery. Because of this, you receive higher base pay, and you are eligible to keep 100 percent of the tips you get.
Depending on what goods you will deliver, there may be extra requirements such as customers being present to collect the items, age requirements for alcohol deliveries, or the need for a special container if youre bringing cold or frozen items from a store or warehouse.

Amazon Flex does not require extensive drivers license history

To Jeff Bezos From An Amazon Delivery Driver
Dear Mr. Bezos,
I finished my last day as an Amazon Delivery Driver today. I drove for 6 weeks 31 working days and in that time I delivered about 3,000 of your Amazon packages. I realize theyre not exactly yours, since you only own 11% of Amazon. But as the largest shareholder, the founder, the CEO, and the president, I figure youre the best one to address this letter to.
So heres a quick update from the front lines what its like day to day and some lessons Ive learned on the job.
The alarm goes off. You roll over, hit snooze once. The second time you get up. You probably showered last night after a long day, so you just make some coffee, wolf down a granola bar, and slip into your blue and black Amazon uniform.
Since Amazon warehouses are usually located in the outskirts of main cities, away from most residential areas, you have a short commute. Fortunately, you have a car many drivers rely on family or public transport to arrive at work. Windows down in the warm LA weather, music playing, you enjoy a few minutes of relative peace.
And the road claims you all, faster than you would think possible, white and blue trucks streaming out of the warehouse parking lot headed for the far-flung city suburbs. Its a quick ride down the freeway to your route, and you follow the delivery guidance system to your first delivery.
So I share what I learned, in the hope that it is useful for you and your team. My best wishes for the future.
