Set Up Or Enter Your Parental Controls Password

Add a Kindle or Kindle App to Your Amazon Account

Next, youll be prompted to enter your parental controls password . Or, if you havent yet created a password, then you should be prompted to set one up at this point.

This is the password you will use when you want to add books to the child profile or exit the child profile on the Kindle. So if you want to make sure that your child does not have access to all the media in your account, then you will want to make sure you choose a password they do not know.

Note that when the child profile is live on the Kindle, you must enter this parental control password to exit out of the child profile and enter the full adult account, so if your child doesnt know this password they cant leave their child profile and access your full Amazon account. So assuming you dont wish for your child to access your full account, then its important they dont know this password.

    Turning Off Special Offers

Your Kindle Fire displays special offers and ads that appear on the screensaver and in the Offers heading of the Navigation bar. You can pay a one-time fee to remove these offers.

  • In Manage Your Devices, locate the device you want to unsubscribe from special offers.
  • Why Should I Have to Pay?

Amazon charges advertising fees for special offers, which they claim subsidizes the cost of the Kindle Fire. Thus, if you opt out, their rationale is that they expect you to pay the projected difference in cost. Many people are not disturbed by the placement of the offers, so I advise you to use your Kindle Fire for a while to see whether removing them is worth the additional cost.

    Use Kindle Without Amazon Account

Using Kindle without Amazon account would be unthinkable for most users who buy Kindle devices in order to access Amazons rich ecosystem of books, music, movies, TV Shows and deals.

However, there are some users who basically want to use Kindle Fire as an Android tablet and find it unnecessary to link their Kindle Fire device with an Amazon account.

Such users can and this will allow them to download both free and paid apps from Google Play Store, just like on any other Android tablet.

What’s The Best Child Kindle Setup

The range of options and approaches means that settings can be tailored to the age of your child and how much autonomy you want them to have. For the younger children, you’ll want their Kindle registered to your Amazon account, but with all the parental controls engaged, so there’s no access to your account, Cloud or the web browser.

Then you’ll want to use Amazon Kids for that child. If they are getting their “own” Kindle device, you can then remotely control the content they get access to. You can gift books by simply buying them and assigning them to their device, but you’ll have to then manually add them to the child’s area on the device itself.

You remain in control of content at all times and can easily remove books that they’ve finished with or outgrown. Importantly, if you’re buying it through your account, it’s your content and you can then share it with younger members of the family. Equally, as a child grows older, using a Household, you can still share older content in the future you might have bought for yourself.

Beyond that, if you have avid readers in the family, then a subscription to the Kids+ service is well worth it. Kids’ books are expensive and they will often read them in a day or so – so the ongoing access to lots of books is a definite advantage.

Most of the features are available on recent Kindle models, but sadly aren’t yet available through the Kindle apps and some older devices. You can check full compatibility here.

How Many Accounts Can Your Kindle Be Linked To

The Kindle e-book reader is one of Amazon.com’s top sellers. In fact, Amazon claims to have sold more Kindle units than any other item on its website. To access purchased books and other materials, a user has to register the device to use his Amazon.com account. Your Kindle can only be connected to one Amazon account.

Replacing An Existing Kindle Fire Account

On some occasions, you may want to replace one Kindle Fire account with another. This can happen if you bought a used Kindle Fire or got it as a gift, for example. Regardless of the story, you can easily deregister an account and add your own.

If you want to deregister the account, simply follow the steps 1-3 from the previous section. Instead of Register, select Deregister. This will remove the account. Then proceed with the next steps.

Note: When you deregister the account, it will automatically remove all the data connected to the account from the device. This includes all downloaded books, audiobooks, apps, and other content that belong to the previous account. However, the content will remain on the Cloud so when that account registers to another Kindle Fire, all the files can be downloaded again.

You can get a message saying there was an error while registering your Kindle even if your login credentials are correct. It happens a lot, especially on devices that youve not used for a while.

At first, when you put on the Kindle device, it asks you to re-register it. When you attempt the registration, it tells you that its unable to register your Kindle.

A quick Google search on the Kindle registration error shows up some solutions, of which many recommend deregistering the device from your Amazon account. However, deregistering didnt work for me when I got this problem.

How To Register A Second Kindle To The Same Email

When you purchase content from the Amazon.com Kindle Store, the content is linked to your Amazon account rather than a specific device. Any Kindle-compatible devices linked to that account can then share the purchased content, allowing you to distribute e-books or personal documents to multiple devices. This can be useful for sending company documents — or e-books relevant to members of your staff, workforce or clientele — to read at their convenience on their Kindles. This process can be further streamlined by registering Kindles to the same email address, so documents and e-books can be sent via a single email with an attachment.

    1

Turn your second Kindle on and press the “Home” button.

    2

Press the “Menu” button and select “Settings.”

    3

Select “Deregister,” followed by the “Deregister” button in the dialog box that appears. The second Kindle is unlinked from the Amazon.com account it is currently registered to.

    4

Press the “Menu” button and select “Register.”

    5

Enter the email address and password of the Amazon.com account used by your first Kindle device, and then click the “Register” button.

    6

Launch the Web browser on your computer and navigate to the Amazon.com homepage. Click the “Sign In” button and enter the same email address and password used to register your second Kindle. You are logged in to your Amazon.com account.

    Kindle File Format Support

    • AZW and AZW3: proprietary Amazon file type. Amazon is switching to AZW3 for most Kindle books, slowly replacing AZW and MOBI.
    • MOBI: a file type developed by Mobipocket. This is just as common as AZW and AZW3 for Kindle books.
    • TXT: a simple text document format.
    • PDF: Adobes portable document format, which many DRM-free ebooks, documents, and other content are formatted in already.

As you may notice, the popular EPUB format isnt compatible with Kindle devices, but dont worry you just have to convert the file first for it to work fine with your Kindle.
