With a new year comes a refreshed flexible spending account for out-of-pocket medical costs. While you may not have obvious medical expenses to spend your FSA money on, there are plenty of approved uses for FSA funds that often slip under the radar.
Are There Any Covid
The Consolidated Appropriations Act , enacted in December 2020, gaveemployers the option to extend the FSA grace period or increase the FSA carryover amount.
A grace period is typically two and a half months after the last day of the plan year for FSA users to spend remaining funds, but the CAA allowed a temporary 12-month grace period for FSA plan years ending in 2020 or 2021, according to Rouleau.
This means for those with the most common December 31 FSA deadline, there may be more funds at risk of being lost than ever before heading into this December deadline season, Rouleau explained. Its important that consumers understand thatall changes were optional.
Heres an overview of the temporary COVID-19 extensions:

For a discounted Health + Ancestry Service kit, our calculator will take the same percentage of the full Health + Ancestry Service kit price from what you otherwise would have been able to claim as eligible medical care on the full price service.

Where To Buy N95 And Kn95 Masks
The omicron variant has become the new dominant Covid-19 strain in the United States. Although the CDC still recommends wearing cloth masks, various health officials are now advising that everyone upgrade to medical-grade surgical masks or N95 respirators.
The latter provide a tighter seal around your face and are capable of providing up to 95% protection against airborne particles. KN95 masks, China’s equivalent to the N95, can also provide similar protection, although these masks are not certified by any U.S. agency. Additionally, there are many counterfeit KN95 masks, so buyers should beware when buying these masks online.
If you’re wondering where to buy N95 and KN95 masks we’re here to help. We’re rounding up online retailers that offer N95, KN95, and surgical masks. Alternatively, make sure to check out our guide on where to buy rapid Covid tests.
Amazon Accepting Fsa/hsa Debit Cards For Eligible Healthcare Purchases
May 30, 2019
Amazon has announced that their customers can now pay for eligible out-of-pocket medical expenses with a flexible spending account or health savings account debit card. Customers can use their FSA or HSA card to purchase a wide range of eligible over-the-counter items, eliminating the need to pay out-of-pocket or submit receipts for reimbursement.
A few of the hundreds of everyday health products eligible for FSA and HSA payment from Amazon include:
- Blood glucose monitors
- Ultrasound devices
A full list of eligible products can be found here.
Since over-the-counter medications require a prescription to be FSA- or HSA-eligible, the new Amazon program doesnt support such purchases. Users who do want to buy over-the-counter drugs on the platform can do so with a written prescription from their providerjust not using a FSA or HSA benefit card. Instead, they must file a hard-copy claim requesting reimbursement and provide their itemized statement and a copy of the written prescription from their provider.
Prescription drug services arent currently integrated into the Amazon FSA/HSA program.
FSA and HSA plans allow users with health insurance to set aside a portion of their salaries before taxes to cover medical expenses that would otherwise be paid for out-of-pocket.
Amazon started rolling out the program to customers in March 2019.

Is Cpap Covered By Fsa
CPAP devices and accessories are used to treat Sleep Apnea, a diagnosed medical condition. In fact, CPAP is one of the most effective treatments for Sleep Apnea, helping men and women who have Apnea decrease their risks for serious medical problems like heart attack, stroke, and obesity. Nighttime breathing problems can also impair your overall quality of sleep, leading to moodiness, irritability, problems focusing and even depression. Plus, daytime drowsiness significantly increases your risk for accidents at work and on the road.
CPAP is a continuous therapy, which means you need to use it all the time to reap the benefits of treatment. By providing a continuous flow of air while you sleep, your CPAP device prevents your airway from collapsing. Because CPAP is a recognized and effective treatment for Sleep Apnea, your expenses associated with CPAP therapy are eligible for reimbursement using your FSA funds. And that means when you use your pre-tax FSA funds to pay for your CPAP equipment, you can save a considerable amount of money compared to paying for those expenses with post-tax dollars from your regular checking account.

In the past few years, Ive had more money left over in my Flexible Spending Account than what Im allowed to roll over to the following year. Since we fortunately dont have many doctor visits or prescriptions each year, once we hit December Im looking for ways to spend this money on things we can use.
Not all health insurance plans have FSA available, and essentially it is a way to use pre-tax dollars to offset out of pocket medical costs. It doesnt always make sense on what is a qualified FSA product. Band-Aids are covered, but Tylenol isnt condoms and pregnancy tests are covered, but feminine hygiene products arent.
At some stores, you can simply run the FSA debit card and the covered items will be paid via that account. Normally this was tied to stores that were classified as drugstores and pharmacies however, I recently discovered that it is possible to add your FSA card to your Amazon account and buy items directly with it.
Since there are so many odd stipulations around what is a qualified purchase with an FSA card, Ive compiled a list of over 100 items that you can buy off Amazon with your FSA money. The list below is broken up into different sections such as Baby/Kid, First Aid, Eye Care, Skin Care, and Miscellaneous.

Using Your Debit Card
You can link your Further debit card to your Amazon account so you can always use it to purchase eligible items. This way, the funds will come straight from your HSA or FSA, meaning you won’t have to go through the reimbursement process that you’d use if you used a normal checking account debit card or credit card. Just follow Amazon’s instructions for adding your card.
However, you do not have to use your Further debit card to make your purchase. You can use another debit card or credit card and use our reimbursement process to use your HSA or FSA.

If you purchased the saliva collection kit – or have received such a kit as a gift – separate from selecting your service and paying a lab processing fee online, 23andMe can only provide you with a receipt for the lab processing fee as potentially eligible as medical care.
