Digging Deeper Into The Professional Seller Account Benefits

Im sure you can tell by the tone of this article that I think you should become a professional seller if you are serious about being in business for yourself. There are too many benefits not to. If youre not convinced here are a few more reasons to become a professional seller on Amazon.

    • Cost Savings If you sell more than 40 items a month, you save money 99 cents per item that sells. That means that the more you sell each month, the lower your costs are. This is a rare gift in the business world where typically your fees go up the more you sell.
    • Ability to Upload Listings Using 3rd Party Services When you are listing multiple items it can become very tedious to have to do only one at a time which is how it works with the individual account. If you plan to list a lot of items, using a service like Inventory Lab you will be able to batch list your products and print your labels on demand. This alone will save you a ton of time and how much is your time worth?
    • Ability to Apply for Restricted Categories There are several sub-categories on Amazon that are restricted such as topicals, groceries and even toys during the holidays. So, if you want to apply to sell these items, its important to get a professional account. You can view the full list of restricted categories here.

As you see, there are some serious differences between a professional seller and an individual seller on Amazon that you should consider when starting your FBA business.

Reasons To Shift To Amazon Fulfilled By Merchant

Amazon is prioritizing essential products On March 17, 2020, Amazon announced that it would be temporarily disabling shipment creation on products that werent household staples, medical supplies, and other items that the company determined were high-demand. Amazon sellers who stock items that FBA warehouses are in desperate need of may be able to continue business as usual, but sellers with items that Amazon considers non-essential are being forced to adapt.

Of course, people arent only shopping for high-demand items. Online shoppers that are stuck at home could be looking for anything from things to entertain themselves with home improvement items to gifts that are meant to cheer up loved ones during this crisis. E-commerce sales are up across the board, and Amazon merchant fulfilled shipping could help your brand take advantage of this trend.

Operations could be impacted for months In the announcement, Amazon stated that normal FBA operations were expected to resume on April 5. This date could end up being postponed however depending on how COVID-19 continues to impact society. And even if FBA operations do pick back up on April 5, there will likely be a massive backlog of incoming shipments that could take weeks or even months to process, especially with a continued emphasis on high-demand goods. Amazon sellers should plan for operational hiccups for at least the next couple of months.

Another Option: Sell Your Amazon Account To Other Amazon Sellers

Email if you are interested to sell your Amazon Account.

Starting an Amazon business from scratch can be difficult which is why entrepreneurs are always looking for shortcuts. Buying a ready-made Amazon seller account instead of creating a new one is perhaps the most popular shortcut.

All you need to calculate your businesss worth is a simple formula:

Let me break this down a bit:

    • Monthly Net Profit – an average of monthly net profits over a 12-months period
    • Multiple – usually ranging from 20x – 40x. This number is larger for bigger, more trust-worthy business that have been around for longer periods of time. Its smaller for relatively newer businesses.
    • Inventory At Cost – landed cost of your inventory. This includes packaging, shipping, and everything else in between.

So, how long will it take your business to be sold?

    It depends.

Some businesses are likely to be sold faster than others. It all depends upon your account type and your niche. For example, buyers are reluctant to buy into competitive niches. Similarly, long-term selling accounts are likely to be more in-demand than short-term ones.

Why Is Amazon Asking Me To Pay $3999

Deciding Between A Professional Or Individual Seller Account On Amazon ...

If Amazon is asking you to pay $39.99 despite clicking on the right link, it means that at some point in the past you started the process of setting up a Professional account.

Once you do that, the best route to go is pay the $39.99 fee, downgrade the account, and request a refund.

During our Accelerator in February 2020, one of the new sellers had to deal with this unfortunate issue thats how we figured this out.

With her permission, here is the email that she received from email when trying to get an Individual account but being asked to pay:

Downgrading To A Basic Seller Account

Hi allIm seriously thinking of downgrading from a pro to basic selling account , with the reason being i am not making enough sales to justify paying the monthly subscription fee. Ive read elsewhere that if you dont make at least 30-40 sales a month, then a pro account is not worth paying for and its better to sell on a basic account.Well as it stands i make nowhere near that amountSo before i downgrade, my question is, can i still sell items in the same category as i am at the moment? The category in question is hair care products

    Any advice will be appreciatedRegards

then a pro account is not worth paying for and its better to sell on a basic account.

unless you use some of the features that are only available to pro accounts, like setting your own FBM P& P fees.

It is actually about 34 items a month to draw even. Once you downgrade you will then pay an extra 89p per sale.As Barry says, you will no longer be able to set your own P& P.You can always upgrade again if sales increase.

Downgrading is a subscription only exercise, it should not interfere with your ability to sell in your current categories.

However, there are other business relates issues to bear in mind.

You cannot set your own postage rates, buy box eligibility will be removed, as will access to some business reports and inventory management features.

Do you sell across Europe too? Thats another consideration.

35 is the financial break even point, for me the business benefits point is somewhat lower.

    Can I Downgrade From Professional

    Hi Everyone,

All my inventory is out of stock now, it will take a month to restock my inventory, I have a professional account where i am paying 39.99 . As i am not going to have any active listing for a month, if i downgrade my account i can save amazon fee but i want to know if that effects my account performance once i restock with professional account status?

Thank you for your time and reply.

Yes you can downgrade, but I believe you will still have the pay for 30 full days.

    Hi there, INDUS.

If youd like to downgrade your account to the Individual plan, you may do so at any time:

    • From Settings, select the Account Info link.
    • Locate the Your Services section, and click on the Manage link.
    • From there, you can initiate a downgrade to the Individual plan.Downgrading your account will limit your listing abilities to those of a Individual account until you choose to upgrade again. However, Amazon does not penalize a seller for downgrading their account.

I hope this information has been helpful. Feel free to post back if you have any additional questions! Have an excellent weekend!

    -Scotty

yes you can downgrade, and just leave a mail to amazon seller support that you may not be available, it will solve the purpose.

Use A New Email When Becoming An Individual Seller

Weve made a separate section for this because its highly important: Make sure you make a new email when signing up for an individual seller account on Amazon.

    Why?

Because if you already have an Amazon account and click on the Start Selling button to set it up as a seller account, Amazon automatically initiates the process to set it up as a professional account, not an individual account.

Thus, even if you intend to be an individual seller on the platform, you will still be asked for the $39.99 subscription fee with you having no idea why this is happening.

This is especially poor design by Amazon and while this was a problem the last time we checked, we hope it is fixed soon.

So, if you use your existing Amazon account to set up a seller account, the only choice youll have is to pay the subscription fee, downgrade it using the steps we showed above, and then ask Amazon for a refund.

Rather than going through this convoluted process, we think its a much better option to just make a new email and then set up your seller account using that email.

You wont run into this issue when you use an email that is not already associated with Amazon.

Is 40 Really That Many Items Per Month

How to Downgrade Amazon Seller Account In 3 Easy Steps

Selling 40 items each month isnt hard to do on Amazon, especially when using the FBA program.

We like to teach new sellers that they should start small, always buying 2-3 of any items to test the water. If you stick with that theory, finding just 15-20 items in a given month will put you over the 40 items needed to make up your professional seller fee.
