Amazon provides two different types of Accounts for those who want to sell items- an Individual account and a Professional account.
The main difference between the two is that the Professional account comes with a monthly subscription fee, while the Individual account does not.
If you decide that you no longer want to pay the monthly fee, you can plan to Downgrade My Amazon Seller Account i.e. your Professional account to an Individual account at any time.
Log in to your Amazon Seller Central account.
Go to Settings -> Account Info, and click on the Downgrade link under the Your Services section.
Keep in mind that downgrading will remove any seller discounts or benefits that you may have been receiving.

How To Close Your Amazon Account Permanently

Why Is Amazon Asking Me To Pay $3999
If Amazon is asking you to pay $39.99 despite clicking on the right link, it means that at some point in the past you started the process of setting up a Professional account.
Once you do that, the best route to go is pay the $39.99 fee, downgrade the account, and request a refund.
During our Accelerator in February 2020, one of the new sellers had to deal with this unfortunate issue thats how we figured this out.

Hi allIm seriously thinking of downgrading from a pro to basic selling account , with the reason being i am not making enough sales to justify paying the monthly subscription fee. Ive read elsewhere that if you dont make at least 30-40 sales a month, then a pro account is not worth paying for and its better to sell on a basic account.Well as it stands i make nowhere near that amountSo before i downgrade, my question is, can i still sell items in the same category as i am at the moment? unless you use some of the features that are only available to pro accounts, like setting your own FBM P& P fees.
It is actually about 34 items a month to draw even. Once you downgrade you will then pay an extra 89p per sale.As Barry says, you will no longer be able to set your own P& P.You can always upgrade again if sales increase.
Downgrading is a subscription only exercise, it should not interfere with your ability to sell in your current categories.
However, there are other business relates issues to bear in mind.
You cannot set your own postage rates, buy box eligibility will be removed, as will access to some business reports and inventory management features.
Do you sell across Europe too? Thats another consideration.
35 is the financial break even point, for me the business benefits point is somewhat lower.

All my inventory is out of stock now, it will take a month to restock my inventory, I have a professional account where i am paying 39.99 . - From Settings, select the Account Info link.
- Locate the Your Services section, and click on the Manage link.
- From there, you can initiate a downgrade to the Individual plan.Downgrading your account will limit your listing abilities to those of a Individual account until you choose to upgrade again. However, Amazon does not penalize a seller for downgrading their account.

Use A New Email When Becoming An Individual Seller
Weve made a separate section for this because its highly important: Make sure you make a new email when signing up for an individual seller account on Amazon.
Because if you already have an Amazon account and click on the Start Selling button to set it up as a seller account, Amazon automatically initiates the process to set it up as a professional account, not an individual account.
Thus, even if you intend to be an individual seller on the platform, you will still be asked for the $39.99 subscription fee with you having no idea why this is happening.
This is especially poor design by Amazon and while this was a problem the last time we checked, we hope it is fixed soon.
So, if you use your existing Amazon account to set up a seller account, the only choice youll have is to pay the subscription fee, downgrade it using the steps we showed above, and then ask Amazon for a refund.
Rather than going through this convoluted process, we think its a much better option to just make a new email and then set up your seller account using that email.
You wont run into this issue when you use an email that is not already associated with Amazon.
Is 40 Really That Many Items Per Month
Selling 40 items each month isnt hard to do on Amazon, especially when using the FBA program.
We like to teach new sellers that they should start small, always buying 2-3 of any items to test the water. If you stick with that theory, finding just 15-20 items in a given month will put you over the 40 items needed to make up your professional seller fee.
