What Is An Asin Number
Amazon Standard Identification Number is a ten-digit alphanumeric code that identifies products on Amazon. Its unique for each product and is assigned when you create a new product in Amazons catalog. Almost every product on Amazon has an ASIN with the exception of books . Getting this Amazon identifier for your products is necessary before you can sell them on Amazon.
What Is Amazon Asin
ASIN stands for Amazon Standard Identification Number. It is made up of 10-characters: numbers, alphabets, or a combination of both. It is a unique identifier assigned by Amazon.com and its partners. This means each product has its own unique code with which customers can identify the product that they are looking for. You cannot find two items having the same ASIN.
ASINs are only unique within a marketplace. So you may have different ASINs in different marketplaces, for the same product.
Note: For books, the ASIN is the same as the ISBN.
Publish The Product Page
Once the product page is published, Amazon will assign you an ASIN number. If other sellers decide to sell the same product like yours, they will use the same ASIN.
Amazon does not allow people to create multiple ASIN numbers. Only if your sales are up to the mark will Amazon let you generate new ASIN numbers. If you want to create new ASIN numbers, you need to make sure your sales are high. Amazon sellers who do well in the store also .

Asins For Products With Multiple Variations
The last thing we want to note about ASINs is for our sellers who sell products with multiple variations such as products with different colors and sizes. This is known to Amazon as parent and child products or variation relationships.
When looking at a listing with multiple variations, you should separate the listing or the parent, from the possible products or children. Look at this example with the Anker Soundcore headphones. These headphones have two color variations, one black, and one silver. In this example, the parent is just the listing itself, Anker Soundcore headphones. But, the black headphones and silver headphones are the children and each has its own unique ASIN. By using the tactics we showed you earlier, we easily identified the black headphones ASIN and the silver headphones ASIN .
Essentially, products with variations will have different ASINs for each variant, but they all share the same listing. While the headphones from our example only had two variants based on color, other products may have dozens of colors, or possibly different sizes, models, etc. If you are selling a new product with multiple colors, make sure to add the products individually to cover every color or size variation of the product. Note that variations can range to dozens of options.

For many years before this announcement, some suppliers obtained UPC numbers from UPC resellers who advertised with discount prices online and on ebay. To view Amazon UPC Requirements go to
We have worked with several Amazon suppliers who reported that during the item set-up procedure, Amazon flagged their UPC numbers for either of the following reasons:
- UPC Numbers were already being used by a different supplier
- UPC numbers were not issued to supplier being set-up.
In both cases, Amazon required the supplier to license a UPC Company Prefix from the GS1.
