Amazons Updated Messaging Policy & The Request Review Button
Sellers traditionally have bombarded customers with emails requesting them to leave a product review for this product. However, Amazon made it even harder to get reviews in March 2017 when they allowed customers to opt out of unsolicited emails. In September 2020, to clearly state you can only ask for one review EVER. Long story short, using Amazons Buyer Messaging system to get reviews is far less effective than before.
Amazon did throw sellers a small bone in 2019 when it rolled out the Request a Review button which can help increase the probability of a customer leaving you a review.

A Note Before We Start: Dont Try To Cheat Amazon
Amazon is savvy. Their algorithm is no joke, and if you try to cheat them, you will get caught. They actively look to find and remove any review that is not a real review written by a real personand theyre very good at it.
Amazon also has a zero-tolerance policy for any review that is designed to mislead or manipulate customers. Theyre not shy about removing reviews that violate that policy.
Heres a list of things to avoid:
- You cant pay for reviews. This includes cash or giving reviewers a free or discounted product.
- You cant offer reviewers gifts in exchange for reviews.
- You cant exchange positive book reviews with other Authors, so dont head to Facebook or Twitter to find review swaps.
This may seem pretty restrictive. After all, dont most of us rely on business associates, friends, and other members of our networks to sell books? And what about giving away free review copies? Does that violate the promotional terms?
Well, there are a few caveats.
You can give away free or discounted books to potential reviewers, but you cant tell them what to write. If they hate it, they have to be able to rant and rave to their hearts content.
Thats why I said earlier that you have to write a high-quality book. Any free copy you give away has to be given with no strings attached.
Reviews Help Drive Traffic To Your Amazon Listing
When you share your good reviews on social media or with your email list, it reminds your followers that your book exists. It also reminds them to visit its Amazon listing.
On top of this, some reviewers have other channels where they publish their reviews. Their own blogs, Goodreads, and review sites where they are members all help your book get in front of more people.
Finally, there are a number of book advertising sites out there where you can promote your book if youre running a special discount. Examples include BookBub, Kindle Nation Daily, and The Fussy Librarian. Some of these sites require a minimum number of reviews before they accept books. Once you break through that threshold, these new marketing opportunities become available to you.

Why Do Companies Pay You For Reviews
Reviews are valuable to brands and companies.
When was the last time you bought something on Amazon without checking its reviews?
When shopping online, for most of us, product reviews are one of the top deciding factors.
So companies know how valuable these reviews are and are willing to pay for them.
Some companies give you free stuff while others will actually pay you with cash either way, you win!
Below, we talk about some of the best and most legit sites that pay you to write reviews.
Not all places that offer paid review opportunities are in fact legitimate. Unfortunately, some places offer to pay but dont once the review has been delivered. Those are also some of the same sites that may even delve into unethical stuff such as paying you to write fake reviews. So please be aware of these money scams.
Weve tried our best to include legitimate places.
That being said, its always worth doing a quick bit of research into any company that you plan to work with after all, companies often change policies, management, etc.
Now thats out of the way, lets take a look at some of the places that pay you to write reviews.

How Amazon Review Sites Work
Before we find out which sites can allow you to get free products, there are a few important details to cover. These Amazon review sites partner with sellers to offer products for free or at a steep discount in exchange for a review.
Due to recent changes to Amazons customer review policy, most of these sites might require that you place a disclaimer stating you purchased the product at a discount price.
Although these sites no can no longer require you to write an Amazon review to get the discount.
However, some sites can require you to leave a social media review to get the discount. These sites issue the discount on PayPal after you post the review.
You complete the entire sale through Amazon and enter a discount or promo code on the checkout screen to get the lower price. You will still be responsible for any shipping costs.
Its possible to waive the shipping costs when you sign up for .
These discount codes will often be for at least 50% off. As Amazon still wants to maintain a high level of credibility for the customer reviews, sites dont offer as many free products as they did in the past.
Most sites offer a 90% discount, at best.
Also, each Amazon review site can limit how many discounts you can redeem each month. Limiting discounts ensures other customers can also find great deals.
Unlike Amazons in-house Vine review program that is invitation only, anybody can apply to become a shopper on these Amazon review sites.
White Hat Tactic #: Product Giveaways And Discounted Products
By using steep discounts, you can get more sales for your products and increase the likelihood of more reviews. I price all of our prices with a 25% discount when launching them to get stronger immediate sales.
There are also discount and rebate clubs that push the boundaries of white hat tactics but are still technically TOS compliant as of this writing. RebateKey is one of the most popular of these services. These services often are more aimed at getting sellers full price credit for sales than reviews per se but a high percentage of purchasers do in fact leave reviews.

by Lauren Bennett – Last Updated March 11, 2019
Writing reviews for Amazon and getting paid may sound unreal, but it is as real as .
Statistics show that 75% of US online consumers shop on Amazon!
Thats a pretty impressive percentage!
So, its safe to say that most of us do at least some of our shopping on Amazon, which means that many of us are leaving reviews on products.
Reviews are beneficial to both the manufacturer of the product and other potential buyers who use reviews to decide whether or not to buy a product.

I know that whenever I buy something from Amazon, one of the first things I do is take a look at the reviews.
You can often see whether a product is actually worthwhile or whether has any negatives before you part with any cash.
And, the reviews also help the seller of the item by providing valuable customer feedback.
So, reviews are definitely valuable.
But, how valuable?
Valuable enough that some Amazon sellers go out of their way to get reviews on their products.
How To Get Paid For Each Amazon Review You Write
A lot of folks don’t have an interest in starting their own review website. I get it. It’s a risk. You aren’t paid up front, so if feels like you’re working for free.
What if you just want to get paid for each Amazon review you write? You can still do that.
Review Amazon Products On Other Websites
For many review websites, one of the biggest challenges for scaling profits is getting enough content out. It’s really hard to write more than one review per day!
That’s spells out opportunity for you.
You can actually get paid to write Amazon reviews for other people. If you land a good gig, they might even send you products to photograph, test, video, and write about.
It just depends on the job.
Most people will just have you aggregate information from around the web. For example, you read 10 reviews of a product, then consolidate and tweak it to be your own voice.
Where can you land these types of jobs? Personally, I like hiring from UpWork.com, but there are other sites like Freelancer and FreeeUp.net that are good too.
As you can see, there’s a wide range of review writing jobs available. Some pay on a per-article basis, others pay per hour, there are also per-project jobs posted as well.
The trouble with these is that you have to be willing to compete for them. Most places where you can find these product review writing gigs are going to be based on job bids, so most jobs usually go to the cheapest bidder.

What Is The Early Reviewer Program
The Early Reviewer Program is closed. The Early Reviewer Program encouraged customers who already purchased a product to share their authentic experience about that product, regardless of whether it was a 1-star or 5-star review. Amazon shoppers depend on reviews to learn more about products, and this program helped to acquire early reviews on products that had few or no reviews, helping shoppers make smarter buying decisions. Customers who purchased a product participating in the Early Reviewer Program might have been asked to write a review and those customers who submitted a review within the offer period received a small reward for helping future shoppers.
1. Can I trust these reviews?
Yes. We only asked customers who already purchased the item and were eligible to write customer reviews. We asked customers for their authentic experience, regardless of whether that was a 1-star or 5-star review. Any customers were eligible to write an Early Reviewer Program review as long as they purchased the item and had no history of abusive or dishonest reviews. Amazon does not modify or remove reviews from the Early Reviewer Program as long as they comply with our

Whats A Good Sales To Review Rate
The average review rate for Amazon products is around 1-2%. Meaning, every 100 sales you make, you should expect 1 or 2 reviews.
The average ratio of 1-2% may seem low. Ive heard a lot of sellers complaining that they struggle to get reviews, when in reality they are at or above the average.
You should be able to generate a little higher than the average review rate. Consider that most Amazon sellers dont have a smart way of getting reviews.
With an effective strategy, you can easily get a sales to review ratio of 5% averaging approximately 20 sales per review on Amazon.
Be aware, anything that looks unnatural to Amazon may get you in trouble .
A review rate significantly above average, or a quick spike in reviews, can trigger Amazon to block future reviews for your product, or worse delete past reviews you worked hard to get.
Thats why its important to think long-term with reviews, and not try to get a lot of reviews all at once.
How Many Reviews Do I Need
For a minimum, you should try to get 20 reviews within the first two months after your book release date. That shows your book has traction with real readers.
At around 50 reviews, you are probably good to go. Around that point, you have solidified the book as reputable and should continue to generate reviews.

Top Amazon Review Sites
These are the best Amazon review sites from which to choose. As you will notice, there are many different sites to choose from, and each one will have a varied product selection to complement your shopping needs.
Each site might only offer a limited number of discounts per item. If all the discounts are claimed on one site, check to see if the item is on more sites.
You may still be able to get the free product on another review site.
Creating Product Reviews On Your Own Website
I make money writing product reviews on my own website, which includes many products from Amazon. I promote Amazon products, plus a variety of other companies not affiliated with Amazon.
With this style of review writing, Im not getting compensated per review, but rather per purchase. In other words, I write the review for free, and get paid for each sale generated through my links.

Don’t Break Amazon’s Tos When You Try To Get Reviews
If youre launching your first product, you may think its a good idea to get your friends and family review your product. Dontits a terrible idea.
If shoppers were to lose confidence in the authenticity of Amazon reviews, it would be damaging to Amazons business model. As a result, Amazon uses AI and other resources to identify fake reviews.
The average review-to-sale ratio is 1-2%. That means you can expect to receive one or two reviews for every 100 units you sell.
If you get ten of your friends and family to review your new product, Amazon can see youre trying to game the system.
Other questionable methods involving reviews include:
- Reviewing your own or a competitors product
- Giving a financial reward, discount, or another incentive in return for leaving a positive review
- Swapping or paying for reviews from Amazon Facebook Groups
- Using a third-party service that discounts Amazon products in return for a review
- Encouraging family members or your employees to leave a review
- Asking a reviewer to change or delete their review
Heres an example of an activity that could land you in trouble. Its an actual email that has been sent out by a company.
If you violate Amazons TOS by manipulating the review system, Amazon could:
- Permanently ban you and freeze any funds
- Remove all of your reviews and stop shoppers from leaving future ones
- Permanently delist your product from Amazon
- Take legal action against you
Create Your Own Arc Team
Why keep paying for review services with each bookessentially shotgunning your book out to readers who may or may not like itwhen you can instead build a team of mega fans who will review your latest release on launch day? Like the previous two methods, this technique requires a mailing listbut after you finish setting up your mailing list, one of the next steps should be to start building your ARC team.
Luckily, building an ARC team is super-easy. And it works with organic and non-organic subscribers.
Way #1: create an automated email inviting subscribers to join your ARC team as part of your autoresponder.
Aside from a welcome email that delivers your reader magnet and says whats up to your new peeps, you can also have an emailfurther down the linethat invites subscribers to join your ARC team. A simple messagelike hey, if you want free review copies of my books before they come out, reply and Ill add you to the listis really all you need.
Way #2: if you dont know a drip sequence from a dripping faucetor havent set up your autoresponderthen simply sending a regular message to your existing list works fine. Same format as above: hey, I have cool pre-release copies of my latest bookyou want in? Reply if you do.
Thats it. You can do this for a specific release , or just as a general invitation to receive all future books. Add the people who respond to your ARC list .
It is extremely important to follow up with your ARC reviewers. Heres a basic schedule:
