How to Open an Amazon FBA Account: Step-by-Step Guide!

If youre already selling on Amazon, simply FBA to your account, and you are ready to roll. Or set up a new selling account and select the FBA option in the beginning.

If you have an individual account, you can still sell via Amazon FBA, but you wont be able to advertise or use other program features.

I have added this part in to expand on that final bullet point as it is what I get emailed about most. One of the hardest parts of running an Amazon FBA business is getting and managing reviews. Because 95% of people who buy on Amazon never leave a review. You need to either convince to 95% to make an exception and leave one, or get more customers from the 5% who do review.

The best long term way to getting reviews is to convince your real customers to write them. But;Amazon is very strict on how you can interact with your customers so you have to be careful. Here are some ideas.

S Of Launching Your Product

So now we have found a good deal, an appropriate shipping option and pulled the trigger on the order its a good time to create your Amazon listing.

Using Seller Central add a new product making sure to select Create New Listing.

I wont go in to mega detail here but do ensure your pictures are absolutely stunning, and that you use all 9 images available.

  • Give-aways by using a service or just to people you know, again to build that spike in sales.

All methods serve the purpose of increasing sales to the point that you start to show up on page 1 or 2 of the Amazon search results at this point you should start to see steady and continual sales without the need for the above. A combination of the above techniques usually works best for me.

I very much recommend using FBA, given its potential visibility to 100MM+ Amazon Prime customers.

If you decide to go that route, youll need to decide whether you plan to co-mingle your products with FBA inventory of other sellers of the same products.

Amazon gives FBA sellers this potentially lethal option of sending product into Amazons Fulfillment Centers, where they might get co-mingled with other FBA sellers product.

This may result in your products getting mixed up with counterfeit or low-grade versions of what you purport to be selling.

Unfortunately, if a co-mingled unit gets picked to fulfill an order on your account, you are left explaining to Amazon why a customer complained about getting a counterfeit item.

You need to work through this issue very early on because if you decide to use FBA but not use the co-mingled option, you need to activate your account to become a stickered FBA account before ever creating your first FBA shipment into Amazon.

While it is possible to become a stickered account later on, it can quickly become very complicated if you have already sent some product into FBA as a stickerless product.

To add your products on Amazon and create a product listing, follow these steps:

  • Visit Amazon Seller Central and click Add product under the inventory drop-down menu.;
  • Select Create a new product listing and choose the category of the products you will be selling.;
  • Fill in the required information such as product title, description, brand, manufacturer, price, and Universal Product Code . If you dont have a UPC yet, buy one before you start creating a product listing.;
  • Click on Save and Finish.;
  • Optimizing your product listing is essential to help you gain sales, rank high on Amazon, and encourage organic traffic.;

    Ive been selling online through my Amazon FBA business for a period long enough to call myself experienced, although I would hesitate to call myself an expert like other experienced sellers tend to default to in this space.

    Amazon is simply a marketplace that enables you to sell products. But, in 2021, you need to seek out unmet demand. The days of buying a case of any old product from Alibaba and flipping it on Amazon are sadly over.

    Instead, you have to use software like to identify gaps in a market, then design and launch a product to fill that gap.

    Competition is intense now on Amazon and will continue to be moving forward. But, if you focus on solving peoples problems, you can always find opportunities and do it better than others. You could or even break new ground and start a whole new product class.

    Freight Forwarding Customs & Prep Centres

    Ive already mentioned that Flexport or another freight forwarder will do most of the work of shipping and customs for you. Theyre generally good enough that I dont need to go into much more detail. Except to talk about shipping options.

    You have the choice of sending your stock by ship or by plane.

    A shipment from China to the UK or the USA will take 6-8 weeks. By plane, it will take less than a week. But plane will be about five times more expensive.

    If I am running low I will fly in some emergency stock, but the majority I send by boat. On your initial order you could always send a small amount, say 60, by plane and the rest by boat. That way you can be up and selling much quicker.

    Your freight forwarder will be able to deliver directly to Amazon FBA, but some people decide to add an extra step here and send their stock to a mid point warehouse. Sometimes called a prep centre. This will be run by a different company and can add some benefits:

    • Cheaper long-term-storage Amazon FBA storage fees go up very quickly for stock held with them for more than three months.
    • Quality control to make sure that nothing was damaged during transit.
    • Fulfilled by merchant you can also use them to deliver orders that were made outside of Amazon or when there are unpredictable problems at Amazon.

    How To Create An Amazon Seller Account

    First, you need to create an Amazon account if you dont already have one. Go to this;page here to create one.

    Next, you can register your new Amazon account as a seller account.

    Be sure to read the Before Your Register section on the webpage. It provides info about the two types of Amazon Seller accounts, Professional and Individual.

    Dont know which account type to use? The answer is simple: if youre going to sell more than 40 items a month, use a Professional account; otherwise, select;an Individual account.

    Why is 40 items the cut off point? Amazon will charge you $0.99 per item when selling on an Individual account. So, if youre going to sell 40 items a month, you might as well pay for the $40 a month Professional account.

    In my case, I was only selling a few items, so I chose an Individual account.

    Once you choose your account type, youll be asked to login or create an Amazon account using your preferred email. From then on you will need to provide:

  • Business Name and Address
  • Billing Method/Deposit Chargeable Credit Card for Professional Account
  • Tax information If signing up for Professional Account
  • For your seller information, youll need to provide your name and address, as well as a Display name. This will be the name buyers see next to the item youre selling. It can be anything you want, but remember its public. I chose BilboBaggins50 because I was selling some old Lord of the Rings video games.
