Set A Price Between $299 And $999

The first thing to know when deciding what price to sell your book is that Amazon offers a 70% royalty rate on ebooks priced between $2.99 and $9.99, and 35% on anything outside that range.

There will be times when you want to sell a book outside this price range. Perhaps you will sell the first in a series at a lower price to drive sales for the rest of the books. But as a general rule, its best to stick to something that will get you that sweet 70%.

As you set your price, Amazon calculates your estimated royalties. It deducts a small delivery rate based on the file size of your book and then shows you how much youll make per sale.

You can also expand the pricing section to set different prices for each country you want to sell in. If you genuinely don’t care about international sales, you can just set it to auto, but you’ll get much better results if you do it manually.

Selling internationally can really help boost your sales, so we recommend keeping an eye on your international sales trends and nurturing those that develop. Our free course will tell you all you need to know about how to do that.

Conversely, if your book starts getting lots of negative reviews, your book will not perform as well.

In addition, a Verified Purchase review is more valuable than a review from a non-verified purchaser. This is why getting reviews during the free period can be so advantageous.

Someone that goes through and downloads your book during the free period is still considered a verified purchaser!

Here’s the deal, you should really try to get at least 10 to 15 reviews during the free period. This is going to be the easiest time to ask people for reviews because well it’s free. Getting as many as 20 reviews during the free period would be excellent!

The printed version can also create a nice price anchor to help your kindle version look like a better deal.

When people see the book’s price of $6.99, this increases the value of the book in their mind. This is an age old marketing tactic. People will feel like they are getting a $7 book for only $2.99what a deal!

So, the only purpose of creating a print version of your book is not to only sell printed book copies. A big reason is to make your Kindle price look like a better deal and sell more copies of the Kindle version.

    Choose The Appropriate Amazon Categories

Categories help steer readers towards the type of books theyre seeking. It also directs your books placement with Amazons digital bookstore where your audience will find it and the other books youll share space with.

Especially if your book crosses genres, think about which categories your book best fits and where it will attract its target audience. KDP allows you to select two categories based on the Book Industry Standards and Communications code.

After selecting your two BISAC categories, youll then enter your books readership age. You dont need to worry about this option unless your book is for young readers, be it children, teens, or young adults.

If you intend your book for a younger audience, you need to select Juvenile as one of your BISAC categories and then enter the appropriate age range.

Next, choose whether you want to immediately publish your book or set up a pre-order.

The pre-order option allows you an opportunity to promote your book ahead of its release date. For this to prove effective, you will need to develop a marketing strategy around your books release date.

KDP only allows this option on eBooks, and you can edit or update your manuscript until 72 hours before your books release date.

What Are The Drawbacks Of Kdp

How To Self Publish A Book On Amazon (STEP-BY-STEP TUTORIAL)

Though Amazon KDP has numerous benefits especially for new authors, not everything is gold and does come with its cons. There are some drawbacks to publishing your books on the KDP platform.

  • Limits to royalty rates: On Kindle, your royalty rate drops to 35% once you price your book above $9.99. It may work for some authors and if your book costs more than $10, there may be something amiss, but if youre selling a box set where several books are bundled into one you can face penalty by Amazon. Kobo and Apple Books, however, do not impose a price cap.
  • Exclusivity clauses: If you decide to publish your book on Amazon and enroll in KDP Select program, you can only sell your book exclusively on Amazon and nowhere else. Fortunately, this exclusivity only applied to eBook published through KDP Select and not to paperbacks which allows the authors an option to get their printed versions accessible through other platforms.
