    Customize Settings On The Device

With the Echo Show connected to your Amazon account, you can control various settings from the Alexa app on your phone, or directly on the device.

We suggest diving into the settings on the Echo Show itself. There are a couple of additional settings options on the Echo Show that pertain to the home screen that you may want to tweak.

To view the Settings app on the device, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap on the Settings icon.

Tap and scroll through the various settings screens to customize how the device works for you. For example, you may not want the home screen cards to constantly rotate. Or maybe you don’t want to have your daily briefing show up sporadically. You can alter those settings under Settings> Home Screen> Home CardPreferences for the original Echo Show. If you’ve got the Echo Show 5, go to Settings> Home & Clock> Home Content and swipe the toggle switch to turn content on or off.

Another option that might make sense to change right away is the theme. In Settings> Display> Theme you can choose a photo background, a light background with dark text or a dark background with light text. For your Echo Show 5, go to Settings> Home & Clock> Clock> and choose from backgrounds to customize.

Customize the device settings to your preference.

    Turn On Explicit Filter

How to de-register and factory reset an Amazon Echo Show 5 via the Alexa App

The “explicit filter” aims to stop songs being played that have explicit lyrics in them. You can’t apply it to individual devices, but if you have kids in your house, it makes sense to apply the filter across all devices, to avoid the occasional Ariana Grande F-bomb during your 5-year-old’s party.

In the Alexa app, open the menu and head into Settings > Music & Podcasts. Here you’ll find the music controls and at the top is the Profanity Filter. Tap through and toggle it on.

The thing to note is that this only applies to services that support it – Spotify, Amazon Music and Apple Music – although it won’t always catch all songs on those services, only those that have been marked as having explicit lyrics. Often the “radio” version will be played, but it’s still possible for explicit songs to slip through.

There’s also the option to deactivate the explicit filter by voice – but it’s best to leave this off – otherwise it can just be disabled.

One thing to note is that services like TuneIn do not support explicit lyric filtering – so if you’re listening to a live broadcast or after the watershed there’s every possibility that some enthusiastic artist or presenter will slip in some colourful language.

The Echo Show is Amazons newest voice assistant gadget. This time around, Alexa comes with a screen so she can play videos, show you your events, and let you see search results rather than having them read aloud to you. It seems a little contradictory for a voice assistant at first, but the Echo Show has a few advantages over its tubular counterpart. Heres how to set yours up.

To set up your Echo Show, plug in the power cable that came in the box and connect it to the Show. After a moment, it will boot up and ask you to connect to a Wi-Fi network. Pick your network from the list.

Use the split-screen keyboard to enter your Wi-Fi password. The keyboard is designed so you can grab the Show with both hands and type with your thumbs. While it can be a little awkward, depending on the size of your hands, its easier than hunting and pecking.

Next, youll have to enter your Amazon email address and password using the on screen keyboard.

If you have two-factor authentication enabled , youll need to enter the six digit code generated by your authenticator app.

    Next, confirm your time zone.
