How To Sell Products On Amazon
Before setting up your own Amazon store, it’s worth taking the time to cover the basics of selling things on Amazon. Even if you’re familiar with Amazon as a shopper, the way it works for sellers is quite different. Take a quick peek behind the curtain and learn about the most valuable listing positions on Amazon, how to get your product shipped out of Amazon’s warehouses, and some costly pitfalls to avoid.
Clothing Shoes & Jewelry
From exercise clothing to sunglasses to jewelry, the Clothing, Shoes & Jewelry category is undoubtedly a popular one — but it’s also oversaturated with items, so it’s critical you ensure you’re able to offer something unique, and for a good price. People don’t turn to Amazon for expensive brand items — instead, they look for the discounts. Right now, the top items are all below $17, and include a basic sleeveless tank top, blue-light blocking glasses, and high-waisted leggings in a range of 25 colors.

What Types Of Merchants Tend To Benefit The Most From Selling Products On Amazon
Three kinds of merchants tend to perform particularly well on Amazon:
Merchants selling unique-to-them products. Companies who produce their own products, such as a company that designs its own jewelry. Since their products are unique, they face less competition from other merchants selling identical items, and have more flexibility over their prices.
Merchants who sell hobby or niche products. Amazon generally won’t start fulfilling or carrying hobby or niche products, so there’s less of a risk you’d have to compete with Amazon itself.
Merchants selling refurbished or used products. Amazon has a huge market for these products, as they attract shoppers whose main concern is price and dont mind waiting on shipping. It is worth noting, however, that used products cannot win the regular Buy Box spot – only the Used Buy Box, which drives fewer sales.
That said, the benefit of owning your stores URL and custom ecommerce website cannot be overstated this gives an extra level of credibility and authority, and visitors are more likely to remember you versus someone else. Many merchants who achieve popularity on Amazon still find it essential to have control over their own ecommerce website and branding. This allows them to achieve a fully independent store presence and market to large audiences outside of Amazon through other marketing channels.
How To Decide What To Sell On Amazon
First and foremost, before you can actually get into the details of setting up your account and creating your listings, youll need to decide what youre going to be selling on Amazon. The products that you decide to sell, after all, have a large impact on the way you set up your store and the way you conduct your business.
So, how do you decide what to sell? When it comes down to it, there are nearly endless options for products you can sell on Amazon. To have the greatest success, however, here are a few tips to keep in mind:
- If possible, finding and operating in a niche market can give you an advantage when selling on Amazon. With a niche market, you find a particular space with a customer base that is highly engaged and interested in purchasing your product. Instead of operating in a highly competitive market against big-time sellers and companies, youll have a better chance to stand out and meet the demand of your customers.
- Demand: Although operating in a niche market is great, you still need to ensure that there is a demand for the type of product you want to sell. Again, youll want to avoid products that everyone is sellingâespecially big companiesâwhere the competition will be too difficult. This being said, to evaluate , you can perform a Google search for your potential products, look at listings on Amazon and other sites, as well as use a search volume tool, like SEMrush, to see how many people are searching for your potential product in any given month.

Lets Get Into The Details Of Fba Shipping
Many goods at Amazon are from China. Marketplaces, such as Alibaba, made it possible for these products to be accessible to multiple companies regardless of their size. Even smaller traders are thus able to get access to these cheap products. First timers on Amazon certainly would want to know how to source products from China to Amazon FBA and how to work with Chinese suppliers to get good to Amazon FBA sales.
These are the few very important things you must ensure for Chinese sourcing
Where To Source Good Designs
Another thing you may notice about top-selling products is that many of them dont come with a beautiful design.
In the Low Hanging System business model, the Ugly Designs Win!
The designs of top-selling products are mostly just text-based, with funny or meaningful quotes.
Im a Proud Dad of a Freaking Awesome Daughter. Yes, she bought me this mug.
No matter how hard life gets, at least you dont have ugly children.
People buy these items because of the quotes.
All of my top-selling products are text-based designs.
There are so many ways to source for good designs to sell:
The free method Create designs by yourself. Its just a text-based design. You can create it easily in Photoshop. But the drawback is that its very boring and trust me, you cant do this all day.
The LHS business model requires consistency. You need to list new products every single day to find winning products fast.
If you think you can create new designs every day by yourself, go ahead. But I cant do it.
The $4.99-9.95 method Another way to do this a bit faster is by using tools like Canva, WordSwag, Phonto, etc. With this kind of app, you just insert a quote into the program and it will generate the quote in a beautiful font for you.
There are usually fees associated with the app. Im not sure about that, but its usually no higher than $4.99.
This way is good, too. You can create a design fast, but you still need to do it by yourself. I prefer the next method.

How To Ship Product To Amazon Fba Warehouse
So, youve made the decision to become an Amazon FBA seller youve researched what to sell, youve done your research and youve sourced your product now what?
The next stage is, of course, so that you can begin selling. Here is our step-by-step guide for you on how to ship products to Amazon warehouse.
Connecting Through Seller Feedback
Some customers want to connect with their sellers by leaving seller feedback. This is a common practice for customers who have already received their products but want to provide feedback to the seller about their experiences. If you would like to leave your seller feedback, head to Orders under Your Account. Then locate the product and seller you want to rate.
In the right menu, you should see an option to Leave seller feedback. If this option is not available, it most likely means it has been past 90 days since you purchased the product and you can no longer submit any seller reviews.
After you click Leave seller feedback, you will be directed to a form where you will see the Seller, Product, and a form to complete. The form will ask for a seller rating , a question about the product, and a comment box where you can provide any message to the seller.
When complete, simply click Submit Feedback and you are done! Your seller feedback and message will be sent to the seller.

How To Create An Amazon Fba Shipping Plan
If you selected Convert & Send Inventory or if you have just added your second item, you will be prompted to create a shipping plan. For this youll need your Ship from address and your packing type.
There are two packing types: Individual products and Case-packed products. Most likely youll be selecting Individual products. Only select Case-packed products if youre sending a box with all the same exact type of item in it. For example, a box of 20 Anchorman DVDs.
Once you set up a shipping plan, you will be prompted to add your items. Assuming this is the second item youve added, you should see two items. Select both.
Once youve created a shipping plan, you can add all the items you wish to sell. Simply go through the same process you went through for the first two items, however, when you get to the end select Add to an existing shipping plan rather than Create a new shipping plan.
Amazon Partnered Carrier Programme
If you only have a small shipment, you might qualify to benefit from Amazon Partnered Carrier Programme depending on where you are shipping from and the size of your shipment.
To qualify for Amazon Partnered Carrier Programme, the length of your box must not exceed 75cm, and maximum weight to pass without further requirements is 15kg. If your package weights between 15-30kg, it must be labelled Heavy Package/Team Lift viewable from both top and sides of each heavy-weight unit.
The Partnered Carrier Programme allows Sellers on Amazon to benefit from courier rates negotiated by Amazon. This applies to domestic shipments of small parcels from any UK address to an Amazon Fulfilment Centre in the UK. Additionally, international deliveries are available from an Amazon European marketplace to any European Fulfillment Centres, including United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.
For overseas shipments, or shipments from countries other than the above mentioned, you must arrange the transportation yourself. Also, if your shipment equals to more than half a pallet, it must be palletized, and Amazons Partner Program will not be available to you. Once you reach the size of half a pallet, you must find your own forwarder, and a delivery appointment must be made between the Fulfillment Centre and your carrier.

Label Your Fba Products
You can label products for FBA by:
- Using existing UPC or EAN barcodes
- Placing Amazon barcodes directly on the product or packaging material
- Paying a per-item fee for the FBA Label Service to apply barcodes to your products
You can see which of your products require labels in the Labeling required tab. Once youve approved your shipping plan, you will not be able to edit who labels your products, so double check here to make sure that you have selected the correct option.
If you want to pay a per-item fee to have your labels created and affixed at the fulfillment center, select Amazon from the Who Labels? menu.
If you prefer to label your products, select Merchant from the dropdown. You can then print labels in a variety of formats. Select your preferred format to generate a PDF document that can be printed on label paper. Be sure to affix labels according to Amazons specifications for your category.
When labeling your products, make sure you place the correct barcode on each item and cover all other visible barcodes except for any serial numbers or Transparency codes. Never place a barcode on the curve or corner of a package, and double-check that each item in a case pack has an Amazon barcode. Any remaining barcodes on the case should be removed.
Product Photography For Selling On Amazon
Ensuring your product photos are clear and promote quality is crucial for your items to send.
When taking your photos of your products, remember that you are competing against other sellers that are selling similar products to you, and you need to stand out.
When potential customers see your products, the pictures should be clear and show every angle. Customers will be put off if your pictures are either blurry or donât demonstrate your products properly.

Fulfill And Ship Your Products
Listing products for sale in the Amazon marketplace and managing your inventory are the hardest parts of learning how to sell on Amazon. This being said, once a customer places an order, the next step is to get that product into their hands.
Amazon offers two options for product fulfillment and shipment:
Fulfillment by Merchant
Self-shipping is typically a good option for small sellers and those with smaller margins. You can opt to charge for shipping or offer free shipping. The biggest advantage of FBM is that you can keep everything in-house and not lose more of your profits to Amazon fees.
The disadvantages are that its harder to qualify as an Amazon Prime shipper when you do FBM, so you could lose out on customers with Prime accounts. The other downside is that its more difficult to win the buy box when you choose FBM.
Fulfillment by Amazon
If the nitty-gritty of processing and shipping orders yourself feels overwhelming, go for the shipping method. Through FBA, you can use Amazonâs world-class fulfillment centers, customer support, and other operational tools to scale your business faster than you ever could on your own.

How FBA Works
Sign Up For An Amazon Seller Account
In order to set up your Amazon seller account and get started selling on Amazon, youll need to choose a seller plan, provide some information about your business, and understand Amazons seller policies.
Choose a Seller Plan
When you sign up to sell on Amazon, youâll choose one of three different selling plans, depending on the scale of your business:
- Amazon Individual Seller: If you own a very small business and plan to sell fewer than 40 items per month, you can sign up as an Amazon individual seller. This will cost you just $0.99 per sale, plus a few other transaction fees.
- Amazon Professional Seller: If you plan to sell more than 40 individual items per month, youll need to sign up for a professional account. Amazon will charge a subscription fee of $39.99 per month, plus some transaction fees on each sale.
- Amazon Vendor: If you manufacture products yourself, you can sell these goods as a wholesale business to Amazon. They will handle product listings, fulfillment, and shipping, and when they run out of stock, they will order more from you.
Be aware that certain products require approval to sellâand, if approved, only sellers with professional accounts are eligible to sell those products. Some products that require approval include specific software, laser pointers, and hoverboards.

Shipping From Supplier To Amazon Fba
Some sellers do not even want to bother handling any inventory, so they will work out a deal with the supplier or manufacturer to directly ship to Amazon FBA centers from the manufacturer. Essentially, these FBA sellers serve as a middle man, coordinating the order from suppliers to the FBA centers and collecting the profits in between.
Do not get too excited though, this process is not as easy as you think. First and foremost, if you are a new seller and do not have an established relationship with your supplier, this may be a bad call. Especially if you do not have full trust in your supplier yet, you want to be extra careful about paying for products you wont ever see. Packages can go missing and new sellers will be stuck with no products and loss of capital. In addition to unestablished relationships, most suppliers do not ship directly to Amazon unless FBA sellers buy enough products. This is usually known as the minimum order quantity or MOQs. Some manufacturers will only ship to Amazon if sellers buy truckloads or pallets of the same product, which costs a ton of money. For new sellers, this territory may be too risky this early on.

Creating A Shipping Plan
Creating a shipping plan is the first step for shipping your items into Amazon. A shipping plan will identify:
- The products youre sending to Amazon
- Quantities of each product
- Your shipping method and carrier
- Who will handle product preparation and labeling
If youre shipping in a Private Label product, youll need to create a listing for that product before creating a shipping order. Shipping orders are tied directly to a listing creating that listing, if it doesnt already exist, will allow you to then create your Shipping Plan. If you havent already created a listing, log into Seller Central and head to Inventory > Manage Inventory. From there, you will be able to add products to your account by clicking on Add A Product in the top-right section of the page. After youve added your product, and filled out all of the appropriate information for that product, your listing will be complete!
Once this is done, youre ready to create your Shipping Plan. Go to the Manage Inventory page and select each item you want to ship to Amazon. Select Send/Replenish Inventory from the Actions on Selected drop-down menu. From here, you can create a new shipping plan or add to an existing one.
Next, verify your ship-from address. This is where youre shipping the products from, so it may be your home, business or supplier. If your products are shipping from a Chinese Manufacturer, for example, you would need to input your manufacturers address here.
