Amazon Fire 7 Review: Alexa Support
The Alexa support is the big new feature with this model but, just to be clear, its nothing new when it comes to Amazons Fire tablets. With the previous update to the Fire 7, Amazon was also boasting about its Alexa functions and the Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 both have Alexa baked in as well.
So what on Earth is Amazon going on about here? The difference is in how the 2019 model supports Amazons digital butler: Alexa is now completely hands-free, which means you no longer have to hold down a button on the screen to talk to your smart assistant. This tablet is, effectively, a slimline smart speaker.
As with Amazons 8in and 10in Fire HD tablets, its a function that works rather well. You get added visuals with certain requests and tips that help users learn how to use Alexa. Its a great introduction to the technology.
Dont expect it to perform exactly like a full-blown Echo speaker, however. The microphones arent as sensitive, for a start. Step away from the tablet a bit too far, add a bit of background noise into the equation and your pleas for Alexas attention will fall on deaf ears.
Aside from this, Alexa on the Fire 7 is just as fully featured as it is on the Echo speakers, with no restrictions on features such as calling, messaging or drop-in. And one bonus is that, when the tablet is used in the same room as another Echo speaker with the same wake word , only one device will respond.

Use Alexa In Show Mode
To turn on Show Mode, simply say Alexa, turn on Show Mode. Alternatively, you can toggle Show Mode on and off from the quick action menu.
Show Mode is only available for 7th and 8th Generation Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 tablets.
Enabling Show Mode makes it easier to control your device from afar with voice commands. When Show Mode is active, text appears larger, bolder, and formatted for reading at a distance. Your device will also suggest actions Alexa can perform while in Show Mode, making it handy for learning what the voice assistant can do for you.

How To Setup Your Amazon Fire For Kids
Now to the specifics. When you buy an Amazon product, it needs to be registered to an Amazon account. With Amazon allowing Households, it’s best to have any child’s device on your account, setup with a child profile.
This way you don’t have to create a new Amazon account for them, you don’t have register an email address for them or provide payment details for them, and Amazon knows that the user is a child and can create a space specifically for them on the Fire tablet.
Amazon Fire tablets – like the Kindle – can be split into two areas. The first area is the full interface with full controls, which you’ll have access to as an adult, with access to all your content. The second is Amazon Kids .
