Amazon Photos is free for anyone with an Amazon account, but without Amazon Prime membership, you’re limited to 5GiB. But if you are a Prime member, you get unlimited, original-resolution photo storage at no additional cost.
There’s also one gotcha on how the service can be usedaccording to the TOS, Amazon Photos is for non-commercial, personal use only. You can take photos, you can share them with your friends and family, and so forthbut you can’t run a photography business on the service without violating its terms.
How Does Amazon Prime Photos Work
There are three main plans that you can choose from.
Free with Prime. Like I mentioned above, youll be able to store all of your photos, for free!
100GB of storage for $1.99/month. This wouldnt work for me. My photo catalog is pushing a few TB and I would fill up 100GB in a weekend.
1TB of storage for $6.99/month. I would consider this as an option if I didnt already have a 1TB-Dropbox plan. This will be good for most people, as you can store a good number of photos with this plan.

There is a free Amazon Photos app for smartphones and tablets for iOS and Android platforms. It looks and works almost the same as the web version. One thing that a smartphone application can do and that the web version cannot is the automatic synchronization of any new images you take with your phone.
After I downloaded the Amazon Photos application to my smartphone, the service offered to log in or create a new account. After successful authorization, I saw a pleasant, and most importantly, understandable interface. The main menu consists of the following tabs: yours, groups, albums and more.

After signing in, youll be prompted to confirm which folder you wish to use as the syncing folder.;By default the app creates a brand new folder in your user directory called Amazon Drive as seen below. We recommend you leave this as the default for now. This will give you an opportunity to play around with the file syncing by adding a few folders to the directory before you unleash the syncing process on all your photos at once. . You can always change the default directory later once youve confirmed it works the way you want it to. Click Next.
Next, youll be prompted to sync folders from your Amazon Drive account to your computer. Unless you have a compelling reason to want to sync all your drive folders to this computer, its best to skip this step and choose not to sync. ;Choosing not to sync here has absolutely no impact on your photo backup process.
Finally, youll be presented with a handy little key for reading the Amazon Drive interface, and the Drive app will park itself in your system tray, awaiting some files to upload.
