Do I Need A Business License To Sell On Amazon
When starting a business, you want to do things right the first time around. If youre thinking about becoming an Amazon seller, you might be wondering, do I need a business license to sell on Amazon?
The short answer is; it depends. There are several factors that need to be considered when working out whether or not you need a business license, including your location and what you intend to sell.
Lets get into the specifics.
List Your First Product
The product detail page is where the sales happen on Amazon. The information you put on this page helps sell your product and encourage shoppers to buy. Candle brand Homesick has a stellar example of a product page that sells. Lets look at why.
Targeted product title
Your product title is essential for an Amazon listing for two reasons: One, it captures shoppers attention and tells them they are in the right place. Two, it can improve your click-through rate in search and improve your SEO ranking.
Product titles have a 200-character limit, but youll want to keep your title between 60 and 80 characters. Why?
- A Skubana study of over 3,000 high-ranking Amazon listings found that 33% of them fell between 60 and 80 characters.
- The guidelines recommend it.
- Amazon can shorten product titles over 112 characters.
Every word in your product title is searchable. Include the most relevant search in the beginning of your product title. Youll notice Homesick uses its brand name , the product line , the style , features , and the container size.
This gives shoppers a clear and concise description of your product. They can then make a decision whether to stay on your page or go find the product elsewhere.
Clear product images
Your main photo should clearly show what the product is before zooming in. Additional photos should provide additional angles of the product and, if relevant, lifestyle imagery.

Can I Sell On Amazon From Home
Yes, you can sell on Amazon from home; Amazon does not require that you have a separate business location or storefront to sell on their platform. In fact, most beginners on the platform more than likely start selling on Amazon from home.
This being said, like all Amazon merchants, home-based sellers will have the option of fulfilling and shipping their own orders or using Fulfillment by Amazon . To this point, if youre looking to avoid storing inventory at your home and shipping orders yourself, using FBA will give you these capabilitiesâof course, with associated fees.
Understand Amazons Terms Of Service
Amazon is very protective of its customers and avoids having them feel overly pressured or like they are receiving spam. They have strict guidelines on what you are able to say on follow-up emails , what inserts you are able to put in your packaging, etc.
If youre always looking for a shortcut and to boost your rankings in the short-term by engaging in something that is a violation of the terms of service, you are jeopardizing your account and credibility on Amazon.

Setting Up Your Selling Account
One of the first hurdles to selling on Amazon is setting up your Professional Selling Account. Getting approved to sell supplements is one of the toughest categories on Amazon. A few years ago it was pretty easy to start selling supplements but because some sellers were selling poor-quality supplements Amazon has started cracking down.
In 2017 Amazon started charging a $3,000 fee for anyone selling in the supplement category. This fee was meant to add another obstacle in order to deter so many low-quality supplements from flooding their market. Its just another reason to consider selling supplements on Amazon a serious business instead of an easy get-rich-quick scheme.
Youll also need the right paperwork to get your products approved. You should be able to easily acquire the necessary documents that Amazon asks for from your manufacturer. Again these requirements are to help improve the category as a whole.
Amazon is one of the most popular places to sell supplements but that doesnt mean its the best or only place. Before you get too far into the process of becoming an Amazon seller take into account the different fees youll need to pay to become a seller, for each listing, etc. Make sure that you can price your supplements competitively and still have a profit at the end of the day after all your expenses.

Action Required: Your Amazon Seller Listings Have Been Deactivated
I received the following email, 3 days ago on 09/09/21, for one of my ASINs.
Why is this happening?
Adhering to Amazons policies is important because it reflects the quality of the Amazon customer experience that you create when selling in our store. We have found that one or more of your listings have violated Amazon policies. We have included details of the specific policy violations related to each removed listing at the bottom of this email. Please ensure that the products you offer comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and Amazons policies listed in this email.
How do I send the required information?
Submit this information at .
What happens if I do not send the requested information?
If you do not take steps to address the policy violations and incur additional violations, your Amazon selling account may be deactivated.
It says that We have deactivated the listings shown at the bottom of this email., but my ASIN is not deactivated and has been selling fine despite this email. I did not get any alerts in my seller account and neither can I see any IP Violations under my account performance dashboard.Is this a system error, has anyone else received the same email? I am worried if I take no action it might cause account suspension but the question is what action should I take if the ASIN is not even deactivated and live on amazon?
Create A Business Plan

To start an Amazon FBA business, you have to have a plan in place to ensure everything on the right track. A business plan should include your business mission, market analysis, products and services, marketing and sales, and financial plan, etc.
There are a lot of things you need to know. You have to research the market, check the trends, get to know your competitors, and figure out what kind of products you want to sell, how much you want to spend on the product sourcing, marketing, and promotion. Try to create a rough plan for your business schedule, and relevant business activities.

Pick A Fulfillment Method
Fulfilled by Amazon vs. Fulfilled by Merchant or Merchant Fulfilled Network are the two primary methods that orders can be fulfilled on Amazon.;
FBA fulfillment comes with multiple benefits making it the ideal choice for fulfillment on Amazon. FBA products are Prime eligible, buy box advantage, improved product visibility, more programs available, customer service, returns, and shipping are processed by Amazon, and convenient inventory storage.;
Some cons of the program include high FBA fees, inventory storage charges, lower profit margins, no control of packaging, and limited access to storage once in Amazon fulfillment centers.
FBM are orders fulfilled by the merchant. Meaning orders will come in through Amazon, and you will be responsible for fulfillment. You will also be responsible for all returns and customer fulfillment inquiries. Keep in mind Amazon has strict seller guidelines. Late shipments and bad customer service will lead your account to be suppressed. Depending on your sales velocity, FBM fulfillment is a cost-effective way to penetrate the Amazon marketplace. FBM is ideal for sellers who hold small amounts of inventory or leverage a third-party logistics provider. Some additional benefits include control over packaging, easier inventory management, and better margins.;
Some cons of the program include high overhead costs, tough to compete against FBA sellers, more responsibilities on the seller in terms of tracking and customer service.;
Setup Your Business And Secure Any Necessary Licensing
Depending on your location and what youll be selling, you may be subject to needing a business license. Most suppliers will require you to have this already in place before they start to work with you. Need help? Start with the Small Business Administration, then reach out to your local Secretary of State. Hire an attorney to assist you with the process to make sure you dont miss anything.

Do You Need A Business License To Sell On Amazon In Uk
No. What you need to get is an EORI number to send your products in the UK. EORI is your company or products unique identifying number.
If you dont have an EORI number, the UK customs will require you to get one before it leaves customs. You will get your EORI number by applying for VAT through the HM Revenue & Customs in the UK.
It is best to secure an EORI number first because the longer your product sits on HMRC, penalties will add up and you need to pay it before they free your product.
Requirements To Sell On Amazon
The Amazon marketplace is one of the most visited sites online today and is the industry leader for e-commerce sales. To sell things on Amazon youll be required to set up an Amazon account, provide a product feed to Amazon, or use their FBA program and send your products to an Amazon warehouse. There are legal requirements if youre going to sell as a merchant that youll also need to be made aware of.
Regardless of the type of account you want to open, a non-citizen of the United States will typically have very similar requirements to citizens or residents of the country in order to sell on Amazon. These requirements, listed below, include obtaining your FEIN .;
You dont have to be a corporation to get your FEIN number and sell as an individual seller but it can be cheaper to register as a merchant, where you will need a registered business. If youre not a resident of the United States then youll need the following information in order to register an FBA account, regardless of whether youre selling as an individual or a business:;
Additionally, if there are states where you have a tax nexus then its required for you to include your state tax id in all of those states. If youre not residing in the country then this will only apply to any business dealings you may have in specific states for the business that will be selling on Amazon.;

How To Sell Print On Demand Products On Amazon For Beginners
There are so many ways to sell things on Amazon. I see many of my friends doing well using the retail arbitrage method. Some people also find local products near their home and send them to Amazon.
Ive never done that before. Im not the kind of person who likes to source a product, pack, and ship it by myself.

Choose Your Fulfillment Method
The next step is to choose the method of fulfillment for your products. Fulfillment refers to the responsibilities of storing, picking, packing, and shipping products to customers. The two options are Fulfillment by Amazon and Fulfillment by Merchant :
- FBA: This method can be best defined using Amazons terms: You sell it. We ship it. Using the FBA model, you send your products to be stored in an Amazon fulfillment center, and Amazon will then pick, pack, and ship your products when a customers order. Amazon also takes care of customer service issues, such as returns. Its an easy-to-use, hands-off model, but its important to know that additional fees are involved.
- FBM: Using this method, you list your products on Amazon and then you handle all aspects of storage and order fulfillment. You are also responsible for any late, missing, or damaged packages.
The infographic below outlines the pros and cons of each method. For even more in-depth information, check out our blog article, .

Amazon Bullet Points Guidelines
The Amazon product detail page bullet points aka Key Product Features section is located under the Descriptions tab. Product features are the second most important factor in surfacing your products. Amazon shoppers rely pretty heavily on bullet points to gather product information. The more descriptive the bullet points for your product pages, the more you will sell on Amazon.
What to include in bullet points:
- Highlight the top five features that you want your customers to consider, such as dimensions, warranty information or age appropriateness.
- Begin each bullet point with a capital letter
- Write in fragments and do not include ending punctuation
- Write all numbers as numerals
- Spell out measurements, such as quart, inch, or feet
What not to include in bullet points:
- Do not write vague statements; be as specific as possible with product features and attributes
- Do not enter company-specific information; this section is for product features only
- Do not include promotional and pricing information
- Do not include shipping or company information. Amazon policy prohibits including the seller, company, or shipping information
Amazon Product Descriptions
Product descriptions are typically a few paragraphs long, and they may require some light HTML. If youre selling products in a category that Amazon regulates, make sure you read all requirements before your listing gets taken down for using the wrong terms.
