How To Choose The Right Amazon Fire Tablet For You
Still not sure which Amazon Fire tablet is right for you? Here are some important things to consider.
Screen size: The Amazon Fire tablets come in a variety of screen sizes ranging from 7 to 10 inches. If you expect to be watching a lot of videos, you’ll want the biggest, nicest screen possible, so consider the Fire HD 10. But if you just want a tablet to browse the web and read ebooks, a smaller display, like those on the Fire 7 or Fire HD 8, will be more than enough for your needs.
Budget: While all of the Amazon Fire tablets are more affordable than anything Apple makes, there’s still a wide price range of $50-$200, or more if you splurge on extras. If you can afford the higher end of that spectrum, the $150 Fire HD 10 is probably the best choice for you. But if you’d rather spend $100, or $50, the Fire HD 8 or Fire 7 are decent tablets that should meet your needs.

Switch Up Your Home Screen

Amazon’s home screen doesn’t look much like any other Android device but it doesn’t have to stay that way. The Play Store is filled with launchers, perfect for bringing that classic look and feel back to your new tablet.
If you’re looking for as close to a “stock Android” experience as possible whatever that means in 2021, anyway Nova Launcher might be worth your time. Lawnchair is also a fan favorite, thanks to its Pixel-inspired design. However, if you’re looking to try something new, Niagara Launcher is well worth your time. Its simplified take on the home screen works really well on a tablet-sized display.
Unfortunately, Amazon doesn’t allow you to set a default launcher within its settings menu, which means some extra steps are necessary to get this to work. Using ADB commands to set a default launcher on Fire tablets isn’t super hard, and our guide walks you through every step of the process. It uses Lawnchair to demonstrate how to replace your home screen, but with an additional third-party app, moving to services like Nova or Niagara is super simple as well.

Email On Amazon Fire Hd Tablet
Setting up your email on the new Fire HD 10 is essentially the same as it is on any other mobile device. From the home screen tap on the Email app icon to launch it.
If youre settings up a typical web-based email account such as Gmail or Microsoft, type in your email address, password, and then tap Next.
The email app provides advanced setup options, too. Typically, youd use to connect to an Exchange server or if you need to change security and port settings. Note that if you have 2FV or 2FA enabled on your email account, and you should, then you will need to use the second verification method the provider uses such as a text to your phone. Or, in the case of setting up one of my Microsoft email accounts, I needed to generate an app password.
Once you have everything set up correctly, the app works as you would expect a mobile email app to work. At first, you swipe through a short set of basic instructions on how to use the app.
Again, its a straight-forward and intuitive user experience, with the ability to create folders and make sure your messages are synced. And, for all of you Emoji fans, the keyboard does include a good amount of them by default.
Of course, you can go into Settings to create an email signature, customize notifications, set an Out-of-Office Message for each account. You also change other settings so the app works in a way thats best for you.

Run Apps Side By Side
David Nield
If youve gone for one of the biggest and most recent Amazon tabletsby which we mean the 11th-gen Fire HD 10 and the Fire HD 10 Plus launched in 2021then you can run two apps alongside each other. This is handy for when you want to take notes while reading something on the web, for example.
To go split screen, tap the task switcher button on the navigation bar at the bottomits the square one on the right of the home button. Your most recently used app appears first, and if you tap the app icon at the top, followed by Split screen, you can choose another app to go alongside it.
The Fire Is Not Helpful In Education

Many people buy mobile devices not only for entertainment but also to use them as a learning tool.
Yes, you can read a Kindle textbook on the Amazon Fire. You can look for a definition in the dictionary, or check out Wikipedia any time or search the web for the topic, but the possibilities are basically limited to these options.
There are not as many and as good educational apps in the Amazon App Store, compared to Android or iPad/iPhone. You wont have access to Googles productivity apps: Keep, Docs, Slides, Sheets, or Classroom.
Therefore, thinking of Amazon Fire primarily as a learning device is not justified.

Amazon Fire 7 Review: Performance And Battery Life
Despite the newly improved Alexa support, core performance hasnt moved on too significantly. Beneath its chunky, plastic skin, the Amazon Fire 7 is endowed with a 1.32GHz quad-core MediaTek MT8163 processor, backed by a meagre 1GB of RAM.
This is the same chip Amazon uses in its Fire HD 8 tablet but with half a gigabyte less memory. Suffice it to say, this is not a particularly responsive or quick combination of components. But, hey, it does the job for watching YouTube and Netflix and browsing the web. You can play casual games on it, too, without feeling overly frustrated, and reading ebooks is, clearly, well within the Fire 7s capabilities.
Here are a few benchmark figures, though, just to set things in context. Oh, and just a quick note: the reason for the superior performance in the onscreen GFXBench test is that the Fire 7 has a much lower resolution display than the Fire HD 8. Otherwise, the scores would be pretty much the same.
In other words, the performance is okay its a bit faster than the previous model and offers around the same performance as the larger, HD 8 and HD 10 models. The disappointment is that with even cheap smartphones now proving slicker and more responsive experiences, it feels as if this is something we shouldnt have to put up with at any price. Apps frequently take an age to load on the Fire 7 and tapping on-screen switches and buttons can feel disappointingly sluggish.

Amazon Fire 7 Review: What You Need To Know
As weve seen previously, this new model doesnt add much to Amazons tried and tested design. The plastic chassis has identical measurements to 2017s Fire 7 tablet and it has the same size and resolution screen at 7in and 1,024 x 600.
Like the last model, this new Fire 7 has two fixed-focus cameras one at the front and one at the rear plus a microSD card slot, a single speaker and a 3.5mm headphone jack. As with all of Amazons homebrew tablets, it runs Amazons own software and app store, gives users direct access to Amazons music, video, ebook and shopping services but restricts access to Google Play.
Whats different about this model, however, is that it has full, hands-free Alexa compatibility, extra storage and comes in new colours.
Access Gmail And Youtube
Even with sideloading, you might still experience problems with Google apps that rely on certain bits of Android code that Fire OS doesnt have. Gmail and YouTube are perhaps two of the biggest misses on Fire HD tablets, but there are workarounds.
You can open and Gmail in the Silk Browser, or any other browser youve installed. The experience isnt quite as good as it is with a native app, but you can sign in to get at all your videos and emails, and you can save these sites as bookmarks to access them more easily .
The Email app built into Fire OS gives you another way of getting at your Gmail messages . You can add Gmail as one of your email accounts in the app using the settings here.

Amazon Fire Tablets are great, affordable devices, but the user interface is very different from that of other tablets. Theyre Amazon through and through, which even includes the Appstore. Well show you how to download apps and games on a Fire Tablet.
Although Fire Tablets are technically Android tablets, they dont come with the Google Play Store on board. If you want, you can easily get the Play Store up and running. However, you can get many of the things that you need from the default app store, which is aptly named the Appstore.
The Amazon Appstore works just like any other app store. Lets get started.
RELATED:
First, find the Appstore on the home screen under the Home tab.
The Appstore is organized into several sections at the top. The main Home tab includes a bunch of suggestions. You can tap Categories to get more specific.
Select an app or a game to see more information about it. Here, you can tap Get to begin downloading.
A pop-up will tell you what the app needs to access. If you agree with the permissions, tap Download.
