Its impossible to say which device is better value right now until we get our hands on an Echo Show. But what we can say is that the Echo Show will offer a fuller experience, so youll have to work out for yourself whether youre willing to pay an additional $80 for a touchscreen and the bonus features that come with it.

If youre looking for an Echo Show thats ideal for video calling, wed look at the Show 8 or the rotating Show 10. The Show 5 doesnt perform strongly in this area because its 2-megapixel camera lens doesnt always get the lighting right, it can deliver a blurry, pixelated image and it tends to skew colors. Yes, its an improvement over the previous 1-megapixel lens, but its still not sufficient for something like a professional Zoom call, so we dont recommend anyone upgrade for the camera improvement alone.
The Echo Show 5 houses the same single 4-watt speaker that pushes out the back. It produces tin-free sound that is pretty balanced. Its certainly shy of anything youd call booming, but the Show 5 delivers a wide soundstage with a focus on clarity and richness.
You can get music from almost anywhere, including Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music, iHeartRadio, TuneIn, Pandora and many others. You can also connect from an iPhone, Android, tablet or computer to stream music via Bluetooth. You can even pair the Echo Show 5 with other Echos or Bluetooth speakers for a multi-room experience.
At its heart, the Echo Show 5 is a smart speaker that can help to power or control a smart home. Theres a growing list of smart home devices that support Alexa, and it doesnt look like its slowing down. Keeping An Ear To The Counter
When it comes to sound quality on the Echo Show 8, you might be pleasantly surprised. The two 2-inch speakers are a little smaller than the 2.2-inch speakers in the 10-inch Show, and you can hear the slight difference in sound quality, especially at higher volumes. When you push it, the Show 8 starts sounding a little buzzy, and it doesn’t have the range and distinction of the Echo stand-alone speaker or the 10-inch Echo Show’s.
But the Echo Show 8’s sound quality is much better than that of the more diminutive Show 5, which has only a single 1.7-inch speaker. In fact, set side by side with the latest Amazon Echo smart speaker, the Show 8 produces somewhat similar results — as long as you keep the volume in the middle of its range.

Is The Echo Show’s Camera Always On
Just like the Echo, the Echo Show’s microphone is always listening. But there’s no need to worry about the built-in camera. While the camera is on by default, it’s not watching for anything.
The microphone is monitoring for the wake word, Alexa, before jumping into action. Once that word is heard, the Echo Show begins to record data that will be saved to Amazon’s servers and stored in order to improve your user experience.
If you are worried about the Echo Show camera, it’s easy to disable it in the on-screen settings. You can even turn off the microphone if you want, but you won’t be able to interact with Alexa.

Amazon Echo Show Vs Amazon Echo Design Which Looks Better
The Amazon Echo has received widespread acclaim for its design. With its slim, cylindrical shape and versatile black/white colour options, the Echo looks good just about anywhere.
Its tall at 235mm, but hardly overbearing with a thickness of just 83.5mm. Its also a little heavy at 1.045kg, but it still weighs far less than your average laptop.
In our review, we wrote: It may seem quite imposing when you lift it out of the box, but the matte black or white Echo is quite inconspicuous. It wont look out of place in most living environments.
The Amazon Echo Show is significantly bigger, measuring 187 x 187 x 90mm. That means youll have to be much more careful about where you place the Echo Show in your home, as it could overwhelm a shelf or sideboard.
Its also marginally heavier than the Echo at 1.17kg, although thats not an issue neither device is supposed to be moved around much.
Perhaps the biggest downside of the Echo Show is that its far less subtle than the Echo. You could place an Echo in every room and theyd look like little more than ornaments. But an Echo Show is a large device that will need considered placement. Thats why we reckon the Echo is the more physically attractive option at first glance.

The 2nd Gen model has a new design compared to the . The new version not only looks more sophisticated but also has better audio quality and new features.
A 10-inch HD display is larger and more rectangular than before. The screen now accounts for the entire face, whereas the first generation had a speaker below it. Here, the speakers hide in the rear and are more powerful. Theres also a 5-megapixel camera above the screen.
A fabric now covers the body in the back, giving a softer and homier feel. The new Echo Show comes in two colors, charcoal and sandstone.
The 1,280×800 resolution LCD panel isnt as high-end as the best tablets on the market, but given how youre likely to use the Amazon Echo Show, it gets the job done.

Ring Always Home Cam Update
The floating drone camera that Amazon announced last year is finally ready for its debut. Amazon announced that the Always Home Cam is now available through invite only for $249. The invitation page asks interested buyers questions like how large is the home, and whether you already have Ring products around the house. It also asks whether you have children or pets.
