Prime Day originally started in 2015 as a celebration of Amazon’s 20th anniversary. Designed to encourage people to spend outside of the October-December holiday season, the online retailer says its only goal was to “offer a volume of deals greater than Black Friday”.
Since then, it’s ballooned into one of the biggest sales in the global retail calendar, with many other large retailers launching promotions of their own to take advantage of the huge online audiences around Prime Day – although the UK is smaller on this front than the US.

Amazon Prime Day, the online retailer’s annual shopping event, used to happen every year in mid-July. But like nearly everything else in our lives — from school to eating out to the Olympics — the pandemic scrambled the normal order of things. With unprecedented warehouse closures, product shortages and everything else that marked the start of Covid in 2020, Amazon pushed Prime Day all the way to October, where it almost blended into the Black Friday season. In 2021, the company went the other way, moving it to June — its earliest slot to date.
This time around, we anticipate that Amazon will return to its roots and bring Prime Day back to July — though that’s strictly an educated guess. Nothing has been officially confirmed yet and when asked, Amazon said it has not “made any announcements about Prime Day 2022.”

Both Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday are well known for offering some of the best deals of the year, and while last year’s offers were a little closer together due to Prime Day’s delayed date, it’s worth considering whether you should be waiting for November’s sales in 2021. In general, we see the same devices discounted during both Black Friday and Amazon Prime Day deals. However, there are some key differences in how each sale period operates that can change how easy deals are to find and whether you’ll be able to get your hands on them before they sell out.
Prime Day deals are, obviously, limited to Amazon, which means most of the discounts are limited to one retailer and others looking to compete with them. Deals are therefore easier to find and price checking is a lot faster, which means you’re less likely to lose out on top items that are selling particularly quickly.

We typically see discounts on items like budget TVs, tablets, and robot vacuums . Target is reviving its Deal Days event starting July 11, and while the official dates and names Walmart and Best Buy’s Prime Day-adjacent events have yet to be announced, previous years offer some clues about what to expect.

As weve noted, the deals on Prime Day are exclusively for those with an Amazon Prime membership. It costs £7.99 a month or £79 for a year. Signing up couldnt be easier, all you need to do is go to the and enter your details.
If you dont want to pay the monthly fee, you can get a 30-day free trial, which will also gain you access to the sale, but wed recommend doing this closer to the time. While you wont be charged, you will need to input your card details when signing up, as Amazon automatically converts you to a paid membership after 30 days.

Leading up to the sale, Amazon is offering teaser deals and ways to earn shopping credits to use on Prime Day. For instance, Amazon has created a Prime Stampcard this year that will give Prime members a $10 credit toward Prime Day purchases once completed. To “fill out” the card, activate the stamp card and then complete the four activities: Stream Prime Video, listen to Prime Music, borrow a Prime Reading or Kindle Unlimited book and make a Prime-shipping eligible purchase.
