RALEIGH, N.C. Amazon says its bringing more than 6,000 jobs to North Carolina, including its factory in Garner.
The company announced plans for 125,000 warehouse and transportation jobs nationwide. The positions will pay between $18 and $22.50 an hour, plus health benefits and 401. As employees fight for better working conditions, CBS 17s Joseph Holloway asked vice president of transportation services David Bozeman what hed say to anyone concerned about that.
Safety is our number one concern for our employees so we pride ourselves in our environments, Bozeman said.
The company says itll pay college tuition for employees and theyre spending $1.2 billion on this initiative.
They can also look and say heyI want to start a career with Amazon. Im gonna get my education. Im gonna get my degree, said Bozeman.

Amazon officially opened its massive fulfillment center in Garner last week, as the online shopping giant slowly ramps up what will become the largest private employer in the town.
Amazon will eventually employ around 3,000 employees at the distribution center, making it one of the biggest hirers in the area during the pandemic. The company said the first item received by the building was a 750-piece puzzle on Aug. 2, and it shipped its first order on Aug. 9: an all-purpose squeegee.

The N.C. Department of Employment Security said as of Aug. 7, more than 1.2 million North Carolinians have applied for unemployment benefits since the pandemic began in March.

RALEIGH Amazon has been expanding rapidly across North Carolina, but its biggest new move is coming in Garner where the internet giant has upped its hiring plans to 3,000 for a new, massive distribution facility. So how do you get one of the jobs?

Garner and state leaders toured the soon-to-open Amazon fulfillment center Oct. 22, 2019.

And hiring people is a major focus.

Garner, N.C. Amazon is hiring over for over 3,000 full-time jobs at its new fulfillment center in Garner.
Employees at the new center will work alongside Amazon robotics to pick, pack and ship smaller-sized items to customers in the region.
The new jobs will start out at $15 an hour.
A spokesperson for Amazon said the jobs are available on a rolling basis.
The center is expected to start operations before the 2020 holiday season, but no official start date has been announced. Contstrution is on-going at the new facility.
Amazon officials said temperature checks, masks, enhanced cleaning, gloves, sanitation stations and on-site testing will be at the center amid the coronavirus outbreak.
