Amazon Flex does deactivate drivers for a variety of reasons including:

Luckily, you can usually apply for reinstatement unless you have done something like steal a package, or miss too many shifts. Those deactivations are usually permanent.

How To Cancel Amazon Flex Block

You can cancel a delivery block with your Amazon Flex app. However, you can forfeit a block at least 45 minutesbefore the start of your delivery block. This allows other independent contractors to get the delivery block andAmazon makes sure the deliveries are on time.

Of course if something happens and you need to cancel quickly, Amazon Flex gives you a five-minute window beforeyour delivery block begins. In such cases, your delivery block will be referred to as a missed delivery block.

It can be a bit tricky. First of all, frequently cancelling blocks can affect the number of offers you see. Secondly, canceling or missing a certain number of delivery blocks may driver.

Additionally, since you are not an Amazon employee, you will not get paid.

The Amazon agreement does not clearly define how many cancellations or missed delivery blocks would cause youto be disqualified.

Our suggestion is to avoid canceling or missing many delivery blocks.

How To Get More Offers

Not getting many offers? There are a few reasons that can explain why. Amazon says that, offers you see may depend on the amount of work youre done recently, the work youve reserved in the future, whether youve cancelled a lot of work, your Delivery Qualify, and your Reliability.

So if you arent getting many offers, try to increase your ratings. Consider instant offers if you cant get regular offers, and check back with the app regularly to see when warehouses release new hours.

Plus, if you get enough deliveries in your market or shifts, you might be able to make more money overall.

Navigating The Amazon Flex App

The Amazon app is fairly straightforward. It does have a menu of components.

The main jobs the app performs are: keeping track of items which need to be delivered, recording deliveries by location, and getting money to drivers.

The app is also a great resource, especially for new drivers. There are many tutorials that cover all the factors involved in being a delivery driver. If you have any additional questions, you can reach an Amazon flex associate.

How To Start Working

Some delivery driver jobs let you work whenever you want just by going online. Amazon Flex is different and requires you to schedule shifts to start working.

Shifts are called blocks. You can view upcoming delivery blocks and the type of delivery involved within the app.

Blocks also display expected earnings and total delivery time.

Different delivery categories generally have different block lengths:

  • Amazon.com: Three to six hours
  • Prime Now & Amazon Fresh: Two to four hours
  • Store Orders: Two to four hours
  • Instant Offers: Deliveries normally take 15 to 45 minutes

You get a confirmation message in the app when you select a block. Theres also a calendar section that highlights upcoming delivery days.

You can cancel blocks 45 minutes before they start. Canceling a scheduled delivery shift with less notice counts as a missed block, and several missed blocks can result in deactivation from Amazon Flex.

Requirements For Amazon Flex Drivers

Before we get into the specific requirements, heres a common-sense consideration. Are you physically able to carry packages and other orders to and from your vehicle? What about when there is ice, heavy rain, or snow? Being hearty and healthy is one requirement of this job that you may not have to worry about in other driving gigs.

But if youre okay with doing the moderate-to-heavy lifting, and dont mind being out in crummy weather sometimes, here is whats required to be an Amazon Flex driver.

  • Have a valid U.S. drivers license
  • Show proof of insurance for your vehicle
  • Have a smartphone capable of handling the app
  • Have a vehicle large enough to carry your delivery loads

And here are answers to a few common questions. What makes a vehicle large enough to carry delivery loads? For Prime Now orders, you can use any four-door vehicle that will safely and easily transport customers orders.

*Note also that in the State of New York, this coverage does not apply. Drivers must procure their own commercial insurance coverage. We also recommend that you get additional coverage on your personal insurance that covers you as a delivery driver. This is not as expensive as commercial coverage, but its important to have if you expect your insurance company to cover you in the event of a mishap, and they discover that you use your vehicle for delivery.

Schedule Amazon Delivery Blocks And Availability

Prime Now and Amazon Fresh blocks are typically 2-4 hour blocks. Amazon.com blocks are typically 3-6 hour blocks.

Each available delivery block includes an estimate of how long it will take to make deliveries to customers, and how much money a driver will make per hour. Compensation varies per block.

Tip # 1: Carrying The Essentials

While you may be busy with your daily jobs as a driver, there is a chance of you running out of some essentials that are critical for you to carry out of deliveries. Keep a car charger or power bank with you at all times to have a healthy phone battery life. Also, because you will need your phone to mark the parcel as delivered.

This is even more critical if you are planning to do multiple routes back to back. Also, do not merely rely on a charger or power bank, as it is always a good idea to start the day with your iPhone or Android smartphone fully charged.

Amazon Flex Background Check

Amazon Flex and other gig jobs do a background check to make sure that youre a safe driver and are not a threat to their customers. This is a very standard background check, similar to one youd take when getting hired for full time employment at a corporation.

Amazons background check goes back seven years and looks for major criminal offenses and driving violations. If you have a history of violent crime or theft, you will probably be disqualified.

The same is also true of numerous driving infractions they probably wont accept you.

The background check is not instant. It takes about 2-5 business days to complete.

Consenting to the background check is the last step in the application process. If you are accepted, youll receive an email from Amazon prompting you to schedule your first block!

Try Other Delivery Jobs

Amazon Flex Offline Maps Available For Download

Aside from just food, there are other delivery jobs out there that pay you to transfer over pretty much anything.

From home furniture to business supplies, your options are pretty much endless.

For example, delivery gigs like GoShare and Roadie both let you make money by delivering packages to people in your city or even in cities across the country.

This type of peer-to-peer delivery gig can pay very well, especially if you deliver bulky packages or difficult-to-transport items to people in your city or further away.

Alternatively, if you want a very similar job to Amazon Flex while youre stuck on the waiting list, you can consider GoPuff.

GoPuff is basically like Amazon Flex but its much smaller and only in a few markets. But, you pick up packages from a fulfillment center and then make deliveries as with Amazon Flex.

Just note that with these jobs, its best if you have a pickup truck, cargo van, or larger vehicle since this lets you take on larger deliveries.

Tip #: Delivery Attempts And Protocols

While we discuss Amazon Flex drivers’ tips, you must know that there are no points for bringing a parcel back. Once you scan a parcel, it becomes a part of your itinerary, and Amazon expects you to deliver it.

Moreover, Amazon expects you to attempt the delivery at least twice. In case you attempt delivery only once, this will appear as a black mark.

In case you are frequently bringing back parcels as failed deliveries, Amazon will put you on a ‘soft block.’ This means you will receive fewer offers and/or offers rejected by other Amazon Flex drivers. The best thing to do is not to rush. Simply deliver the rest of your parcels and your normal pace.

Once you deliver all the parcels, try to reattempt those deliveries and even if you finish after your delivery slot. It would be best if you informed the Amazon Flex support team about you running over. They will not penalize you for exceeding your delivery slots as far as you deliver all the parcels in your itinerary.

How Long Does It Take To Process The Amazon Flex Background Check

Amazon Flex passes the job of checking backgrounds to an outside company that specializes in this field. The check, under normal circumstances, takes only 2-5 days to complete, but it can take as long as 10 days to complete. If your check takes longer than 5 days, simply call Amazon Flex support to get a status on your background check. Provided theres nothing in your records that might be a problem, youll be up and driving for Amazon Flex before you know it.

Sign Up For Amazon Flex Deliveries

After youre approved, youll see deliveries you can schedule on the app. Shifts at Amazon Flex are called blocks and are typically 3-6 hours long.

You can pick up blocks in 2 ways:

  • Claim shifts Amazon Flex app offers you. The app will periodically send you the shift offers that match your availability. Simply navigate to the Calendar section of your app to access shifts. Note that these opportunities may expire, so if you like the shift, you should pick it up as soon as you can.
  • Score hours on short notice. This option allows you to find same-day opportunities, which you can find under the Check Available Blocks section. These blocks appear up to 24 hours before the shift begins and any delivery driver can schedule them. So this option is first-come, first served.

Delivery Pickup Locations & Warehouse Codes

Amazon Flex

When browsing offers, youll notice that each offer lists a location, a code in parenthesis, and an order type. For Example, and order might look like: Santa Monica Prime Now.

What does that information mean, exactly? Amazon doesnt do a great job of explaining their notation system. Does the listed location only refer to the pickup spot, or does that mean the route will also be in Santa Monica. And what does the code mean?

The location listed in each offer is the delivery pickup location. The delivery route will not necessarily be in that same location. Many delivery routes will be within a roughly 20 miles radius of the pickup facility, but it could be further away.

The code listed in each order represents an order pickup facility. Amazon doesnt have a map or list of pickup facilities. Youll eventually get an address for the pickup facility an hour before the offer begins, but its a lot easier to make an informed decision about the offer if you know where the warehouses are.

See this list of warehouse locations from Reddit. It lists warehouse IDs, names of facilities, and GPS locations.

Where is the delivery route? How Far is it from the warehouse?

The maximum distance from pickup location to the delivery route varies depending on the market. A large, dense city like LA with many warehouses will have a delivery radius of around 20 miles from the warehouse. But other more remote locations might send you further for your route.
