Whole Foods Says The New Fee Is To Help Cover Operating Costs
A Whole Foods Market spokesperson told Fox Business that the fee was added so that the grocer would not have to increase the prices of its products to offset “operating costs, including equipment, technology, and other costs” associated with the Amazon delivery service. The company said it had delivered more than three times as many orders in 2020 than it had before the pandemic, and as the pandemic goes on, “customers continue to rely on delivery for their stocking up needs, as average basket sizes have continued to increase since the beginning of 2021,” the spokesperson said.
“This service fee helps to cover operating costs so we can continue to offer the same competitive everyday prices in-store and online at Whole Foods Market,” Amazon wrote in its email to Prime members, which many have shared on Twitter. The spokesperson told Fox that the company has had “consistent pricing on everyday priced products in store and online.”
Why Is Amazon Prime Shipping So Slow
As of 2020, Amazon began prioritizing essential orders over regular orders. So household staple items get moved to the front of the delivery line over non-essentials such as clothing, electronics, and home décor items.
The retail giant classified the following as essential orders:
- Baby products
- Pet supplies.
And, to make up for the unexpected spike, its been hiring thousands of people.
In fact, techhq.com wrote that no American company has hired so many workers so quickly. It reportedly hired 427,3000 people in 2020! A considerable chunk of those employed work as software engineers, hardware specialists, warehouse workers, and delivery drivers.
To put this in perspective, its important to recall that even before the pandemic, online shopping has been increasing dramatically.
I devoted a recent article of mine to this theme. In it, I showed, amongst other things, that online grocery shopping increased by 137% in 2020. In fact, most grocery retailers saw 8 years worth of online shopping orders just during the 12 months of 2020!

Hold Amazons Feet To The Fire
I realize Amazons been hit by unprecedented demand in recent months, but lets not forget they are one of the richest companies in the world.
Now that the economy and stores have opened back up in most of the country, the demand for online shopping has been greatly reduced.
Yet Amazon still cant figure it out and solve their order backlog issues.
What ticks me off the most is Amazon wants to blame it on the pandemic and increased demand in online shopping.
Id have no problem buying that argument back in March, April or May of 2020BUT NOT NOW.
Its my opinion that Amazon was losing money on the 2-day shipping guarantee and is using the current situation as a handy way to get rid of the fast shipping guarantee altogether.
Id be SHOCKED if 2-Day Prime shipping ever came back at this point.
So the bottom line is get your $10 refund NOW before they arent so generous.
The customer service rep also told me that MANY people are calling to cancel Prime, she said she had already cancelled over 50 memberships in the past couple days.
Heres what a chat rep told me when I asked him if Prime members were complaining about the issue:
Amazon Prime No Longer Offers 2
Amazon continues to offer 2-day shipping services to its prime users. However, this service is not available due to the enormous volume of orders. Amazon is now prioritizing orders according to their importance. The reason for this uncertainty is that Amazon has not officially announced when 2-day shipping will end for Prime members.Feb 12, 2022

Why Amazon Prime Orders Are Taking So Much Longer To Deliver
As the world grapples with COVID-19, Amazon struggles to keep up with delivery times on Amazon Prime orders. Here’s what the company says.
Millions of Prime users may have noticed longer delivery times on many items over the past few weeks, and it’s no surprise why. As has been the case for most of the world’s typical operations, Amazon’s output is indirectly impacted by COVID-19. The company is working to mitigate issues brought on by the virus in all sections of its shopping pipeline.
The usual Amazon Prime standard is that subscribers get free two-day shipping on orders fulfilled by Amazon . Since introducing the service, Amazon has added a staggering variety of products to its Prime list a decision that has led to the dozens of Amazon warehouses across the world. Despite its reputation as a way to purchase items that are hard to find in stores, a significant portion of Amazon’s business is selling everyday items to people who would simply prefer shopping from home rather than going to a store, regardless of physical retail stock.
Why Is Amazon Delivery So Slow
Amazon delivers a large number of packages every day, all over the world! And while they advertise quick delivery times, many customers have noticed that Amazons package delivery can actually be very slow.

Talking To Customer Service
Once it’s time to talk to a customer service rep, the process is somewhat simple. Customers simply confirm that they purchased a product and that it hasn’t arrived. Amazon customer service will look into the claim, quickly determine that the package hasn’t arrived and, in most cases, automatically offer a free month of Amazon Prime service.
But as mentioned, some people have been lucky enough to get more than a free month of Prime, so it’s a good idea for customers to push back a bit and explain why the delay is such an inconvenience.

Perhaps you ran out of critical household goods or you were counting on the product to land in time so it could be given as a gift. Whatever the case, the commenters suggest customers who come up with a good reason Amazon’s delay is upsetting them are in a good position to get a bit more. As long as it’s all done in a polite manner. In other words, writing in all caps or too much complaining will probably get you nowhere.
Given that Amazons official policy only allows for customer service representatives to offer a freebie on the first late Amazon Prime delivery, the company might be less willing to offer a deal if delays start to pile up. As such, it’s a good idea to go for it all the first time around or face the possibility of more pushback on subsequent attempts.
Will Amazon Prime Day 2021 Be Delayed
On its most recent earnings conference, Amazon revealed that the next Prime Day would take place in the second quarter of 2021.Due to the increase in sales that occurred over Prime Day, the online retailer may miss some of its shipment dates.Contacting Amazons customer support and asking about the status of your item is the most effective course of action to take in order to rectify the problem.

Amazon’s Response To Covid
In addition to struggling with Prime delivery promises, Amazon is battling the coronavirus pandemic on multiple fronts. As it has grown, Amazon now deals in physical stores with its , and also generates significant revenue from Amazon Web Services. For AWS partners, Amazon is trying to provide easier access to cloud computing to ease the transition to working from home. The company is also leveraging AWS servers to aid in COVID-19 research computing. Amazon Go workers and many people employed in Amazon warehouses are receiving paid time off. For those still commuting to Amazon-owned locations, sanitation efforts have been improved, with cleaning crews now running regular disinfectant passes in high-traffic areas.
In a refreshingly humanitarian move, Amazon is also offering a grant to Seattle-based businesses located near its main offices. The Neighborhood Small Business Relief Fund, aimed at companies generating less than $7 million annually, is available for businesses suffering due to a lack of foot traffic as a result of the recommended social isolation to combat COVID-19. Additionally, Amazon is increasing its efforts to prevent online sellers on the website from gouging prices on high-demand, essential items like toilet paper and cleaning supplies. This Fee Has Already Been Implemented In Some Areas
Depending on where you live, you may not have until Oct. 25 to run through your perk of free delivery for Whole Foods’ orders. According to Amazon, this new fee has already been rolled out in six cities: Portland, Maine Providence, Rhode Island Manchester, New Hampshire and the greater Detroit, Boston, and Chicago areas. In these areas, the new policy went into effect on Aug. 30.
Fees may be different depending on your order as well. According to Amazon, there will be no service fee added to Amazon Fresh delivery orders. But for orders from Whole Foods, “additional rush fees apply on one hour delivery orders. Grocery pickup will continue to be free for Prime members on orders over $35,” Amazon states on its website.
Amazon Is Adding A New Fee To Whole Foods Deliveries In October
Amazon Prime members were notified on Sept. 24 that there will soon be a change coming to any Whole Foods delivery order placed through the marketplace, CNN reported. According to an email sent to members, every order for the grocery store placed through Amazon Prime will include a $9.95 delivery charge, starting Oct. 25. This service was originally free as a perk for paying Prime members, who already pay $12.99 per month or $119 per year, plus taxes.

What Are The New Rates For Sending Letters And Packages
On Aug. 29, the Postal Service raised the price of a first-class stamp from 55 to 58 cents. That means Forever stamps now cost 3 cents more. But because Forever stamps never expire, the ones you bought in 2020 — or any prior year — remain valid even though the postage rate has gone up.
Other first-class standard-size mail and large envelopes, including presorted letters like bills and statements, and newspapers and magazines had a price increase, as did media mail such as books. The prices for special services like certified mail and money orders went up as well during the summer.
While adding a couple of cents to send a birthday card might not burn a hole in your pocket, even a small increase could be ruinous for businesses that send a ton of mail or companies that depend on mass mailings.
The US Postal Service also announced a temporary price increase on commercial and retail domestic package shipments for the 2021 peak fall and holiday season, in effect Oct. 3 through Dec. 26. The price increases range from 25 cents to $5 per package on priority mail, priority mail express and first-class package service. They are detailed in this statement.
According to the agency’s plan, there could be even more price increases over the next decade. While the Postal Regulatory Commission said there won’t be another increase until next summer, the Postal Service will likely start implementing price hikes twice annually starting in 2023.
